Best fragrant Orchids in the world! #1

Due to popular demand I am remaking the series on fragrant orchids, presenting 4 of the best smelling orchids you can find in each episode. As they bloom or I purchase more, I will update the list :) Here are the best smelling orchids featured today:

Oncidium Sharry Baby is by far the most popular fragrant orchid out there and with good reason. It smells absolutely divine of chocolate, or vanilla chocolate, or even milk chocolate. You don;t need to imagine it really hard, the delicious fragrance is strong and straight to the point.

The Cycnodes Wine Delight is a different beast, its fragrance is super strong, sharp and refreshing. I am not sure how to describe it without making it sound bad, but just imagine some really delicious medicine, if that makes any sense :)

The Rhynchorides Bangkok Sunset is mild, solf and non offensive. A floral dream for all the soft fragrance lovers out there. It smells like a combination of wonderful flowers, nothing over powering, but very whimsycal.

The Sedirea japonica is a popular fragrant species, smelling clean and fresh of delicious lemon pie. It is a bit sweet so it's quite enjoyable, but you definitely think of lemon fruit when you smell it. Nothing synthetic whatsoever!

Finally! I bought a sharry baby yesterday (without blooms, but for 2, 50 - totally worth it) in Bauhaus, i never had the hope to find a sharry baby in these kind of stores :D Cannot wait for the blooms and the fragrance!

A very informative video!

It always makes me laugh when I see perfumes or similar products claiming to have an orchid note to them. I'm like... which orchid? Lol there are SO many different orchid scents.

I love fragrant orchids! I bought a division of a maxillaria tenuifolia a few weeks ago. I'm really looking forward to its coconut-scented blooms. Thanks for the lovely video :)

I agree with Bill. The video is well done and enjoyable to watch. Oh yes, it's informative too. The way you compare the intensity of the fragrance of each orchid to the different intensities of perfumes help me better appreciate the fragrances of the orchids.

My favourite orchids for fragrance are definitely Cattleyas, I think that Blc. Burdekin Wonder Lakeland is in the top ten list for fragrance, as well as Cattleanthe (Potinara) Burana Beauty. I also love Cattleya intermedia alba, and I also have an unnamed hybrid, with a wonderful fragrance, probably the favourite of all, that is possibly Cattlianthe Wufong Rose... Very complex citrus scent with also sweet and fruity notes!!!

I started feeling hungry when you described the sharry baby oncidium lol! I would like to collect more fragrant orchids, apart from my phaleanopsis. But I have one phalaenopsis that bloomed a few days ago, and it has a lily-like fragrance with a hint of lemon. :)

I love fragrant orchids! I bought) an Onc. Heaven Scent "Redolence' and believe it is similar to Sharry Baby - fingers crossed I have reliable sources :)

Beautiful video Danni, Beautiful presented and narrated, Your description of all the fragrances was Excellent, Why you are not a regular tv presenter with a voice like yours I'll never know, And your very pretty too, Tv companies have no excuse You have the things they normally look for young pretty educated articulate, And well presented what more could they ask? Great video Danny well done, I love the editing work !!   Now on to some serious food for thought I was thinking of breeding some of my own Orchids that can be scented as well.  What do think of  SLC Granny Panties, or how bout Oncidium  Dirty Sanchez,   hmm what about Catasetum Garbage dump, ..man these are great names what do you think ?
