I run x-blades on two mowers ... they have been phenomenal !!! If the individual blades are properly balanced there will be no damage to your spindles ... engage your PTO at about 1/2 throttle and the wear/tear on the belt & PTO clutch will be unnoticeable. I didn't use any adapters to maintain the "X" configuration ... merely crossed the blades and tightened them down ... NEVER had one slip.

I went with welded X blades on a 42" toro for super Vacuum.. cut quality was secondary, but very good even with the very slight stacked blade offset. We get a foot of leaves and big sticks here per season, and I DON'T RAKE! Four High Lift blades on two HD spindles, also cut/re=welded the crap stamped deck for Air Flow with an 8" flex pipe to the dump basket. Got into some serious Brush Hogg duty and bent the deck on a chunk of buried cast iron pipe. More welding/Sledge hammer work, a couple spindle upgrades, switched to the Oregon thick flat blades and gosh golly chrome is disappearing from trailer hitches. The upgraded PTO Clutch isn't thrilled, but still there! Also switched to the wierd blue colored Kevlar belts and they're holding up too.

I have them installed on my Ferris ISX800 52" and haven't had any problems. Put them on last season. 👍👍👀

You should have made a single pass with the old blades, then a pass with the new setup right next to it. That way you could see if there was improvement

I had an idea to use sharpened fan blades in the past but now I'm thinking fan blades are way too thin or at least off-the-shelf ones probably would be too thin, they'd have to be custom-made for a mower ; to cut grass and suck up trash .

Will the Dual Blades require more HP from the Engine?

The added weight of the second blade adds too much torque on the spindle along with increased stress on the belt. This is why all those 2-blade setups use very thin blades. Better to buy — and properly sharpen — a good mulching blade. If you have to double cut your lawn, something's wrong. 👍
