Moving the capital doesn't help Jakarta from sinking, so why do they say moving the capital is the Solution?

"The Sinking City" is just an euphemism for Indonesia's agenda to throw away all things from colonialism in the past. In fact, Jakarta was never prepared by the colonials in the past to become a national capital city. That was because the colonizers only wanted a city near the port to transport stoled agricultural products and spices. Including the current Indonesian state palace is a colonial heritage building. That's the first.

Second, Indonesia wants to create a more balanced epicentrum. Currently, the island of Java is inhabited by 56 percent of Indonesia's population, this is extraordinarily dense. Though, Java island is only 6 percent by total area of the country. So, to evenly distribute the population throughout Indonesia it is very very necessary.

Third, the future challenge of the government is too focused on the Java. There are no separatists in Java. Rebellions usually appear in the outermost areas of the country. By moving the capital city in the middle of the Indonesian archipelago, it is easier for the central government to monitor the whole corners of the country. New military bases will definitely be built in the new capital, so that jet fighters and warships can be deployed more quickly.

Fourth, Java-centric could be an issue in the future if not anticipated immediately. Other tribes will feel discriminated against if the entire center of government is placed in Java. Indonesia has 1000 tribes throughout the country and java tribe is only one of them.

Once again, the sinking city is just an issue created to simplify all the reasons above. Indeed, the sea water discharge of the Jakarta coast rises 17 cm every year. But it will take hundreds years to sink the whole of Jakarta. It is not even happens in 500 years. That is not the main issue.

The name of the capital is undervaluing its actual meaning.

It’s like Italy build a new capital city and call it “Mediterranean”.
Or Ireland build a new city and naming it “British Isles”

A risky movement that is even opposed by many people within the country, but is more realistic than building cities equivalent to Jakarta throughout Indonesia (a political promise of one presidential candidate 😂).

For your information, Nusantara is not only a matter of moving the capitol from Jakarta. It is not about the sinking and over-populated Jakarta.

First, to start a new chapter to reach the nation's goal in 2045, what is known as The Golden Indonesia, Java centrist paradigm should be ended. For 79 years it only about Jakarta and Java.

Currently, it is not only Jakarta but also the Island of Java is over-populated. Around 60 percent of the nation's economy and population is centralized in Java. This had created social injustice. As a result, the terms as eastern and western emerged. The Western were meant to be for people who live in Java and the Eastern were meant to be those who live in other islands except Sumatera.

Nusantara is the new centrist, Indonesia centrist. It is not only a city for the government like Canbera, Brazilia, Naypydaw, or Putra Jaya. Nusantara will become a living city like Jakarta.

If you read the Dutch files, Jakarta was not built and meant to be a capitol. The Dutch government actualy planned to move the capitol to Bandung but before it was established Japan defeated the Dutch during the WWII. So those who opposed Nusantara are only people who do not want to lose their comfort zone and those who forget the idea of what is Indonesia.

Second, the location in Kalimantan is very strategic. It will not only stand its purpose as the center of Indonesia but also will establish the new center of ASEAN economic sub-region. Nusantara will create a new interconnectivity in Kalimantan or Borneo Island. It will create a new economic link between Indonesia, Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak), and Brunei Darussalam.
Nusantara, Bandar Seri Begawan, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and other major cities on the island will play its role to boost the island economy. This will bring ASEAN to gain a higher economic power in the region. This is what the western countries are afraid of. Even China, Japan, and South Korea will have to recalibrate their strategies to deal with ASEAN.
