Indonesia is relocating its capital away from Jakarta to a 33 billion dollar planned city on the island of Borneo. Called Nusantara, the new capital will cover 562 square kilometers and will be a digital city of the future in the jungle, with a population of 2 million. It will help shift the burden away from Jakarta and will better represent the Indonesian archipelago, but will displace thousands and impact the environment.

What do you think? Is Nusantara a good idea!?

There are several reasons which I classified to two parts

1. Reason for Leaving Jakarta
> Sinking
> Overcrowded & Overpopulation
> Traffic Jam
> Pollution
> There were plans to relocate the capital even before Indonesia gained independence in 1945

2. Why the location was chosen at Nusantara
> The location is at the center of Indonesia
> Earthquake free
> Flood Free
> No Volcanoes
> The land already belongs to the government, and as such land acquisition was not an issue
> Good transportation access from Balikpapan and Samarinda
> To remove "Java Centric Views", which currently the center of Indonesia and has larger population than the entire Russia.

For everyone wondering who will live here, of course the first inhabitant will mostly be government officials, military and police personnel, and many other governmental function.

And it's not designed to be a commercial city like new york, so don't be freaked out about the environmental issues, the city will mostly still be forest (or at least they planned to do so), and is not intended to be highly populated

Absolutely good idea... I'm not relevant with politics but I appreciate the approach and effort of Indonesian government in order to save Jakarta and the future of Indonesia. No matter which party will win, I wish a brilliant future for Indonesia.

Before bring about environment The city land is a former forest that is overgrown with wild plants and is not a customary forest or protected forest and the land was purchased from another company.

Thank you for make content about Indonesia. Indonesian still debating for this project. It is feared that this will be the project's biggest failure project in Indonesia and cause a lot of funds to be corrupted

I suppose it s a benevolent gesture that the Javanese allowed the capital away from their clutches but I m pretty sure most in powerful position in the new capital would still be javanese

Well if they do make this new city tven i hope they don't put a blanket over the old capital. Seems like they are ignoring the capital city issues .

And i doubt making a new huge city would cost that it would be way more

When you are not able to solve problems in capital you just make a new one.
Lovely new home for ultra rich.
