We had a big black dog named Bruno. He was a chow mixed with a Labrador. Best dog ever!! Every inch a Bruno. I had a toddler who could sit on him and play endlessly with him. He never ever snapped at him or any of the family, our friends or other pets. I didn’t even think he was one bit aggressive. Until... I saw him hold off 10 cops trying to come up a Staircase once (don’t ask..) He looked like one of the Ugly snarling dogs that guard the gates of Hell! The cops got a call on my ex husband who lived next door). The cops came next door to ask me to get Bruno to calm down ( No.. no one got arrested. My ex was being an ass).
One time Bruno got hit by an old guy in a Cadillac. He sent Bruno flying. Such an accident would hurt or even kill most dogs, not Bruno. He got in his Dog from Hell mode. He tried to take the guy out through driver side window! Bruno scratched up the Cadillac all to hell trying to get to him. The guy took off as fast as he could. We never heard from him again 😎. So Chow Labradors are not only great family guard dogs, they are sturdy too. 🤓

I might have to do more research but I was thinking Saints and Danes were abit to friendly to be on a list like this. Although the Saint Bernard shown in this sure is Pretty. Now the Rotti, from everything I've read and seen online so far does deserve a high rank on this list. Of course I also agree with haveing the GSD on this list.

My boxer is amazing with my kids. But a gaurd dog he is not lol. He's more of a "welcome to my family stranger, will you throw my ball and be my friend" type of dog.
