Pop Trigger interviews filmmaker and activist Emmanuelle Schick Garcia on her film "The World According To Homophobes".

"The World According to Homophobes aims to uncover the origin of people’s homophobia. With the insight of Dr. Gilligan, a leading psychiatrist and former director of mental health for the Massachusetts prison system, and other leading sociologists and psychologists, we will delve into the minds of homophobes to understand what drives their behaviour.

To accomplish this, the director, Emmanuelle Schick Garcia, has interviewed paramilitaries and violent felons, politicians, religious leaders and school directors. Through candid conversations, these individuals have discussed their sex education, feelings towards homosexuals and what arguments they use to defend their homophobia.

By deconstructing the superstitions and feelings of homophobes, especially the poorly studied emotion of shame, the film hopes to help homophobes self-reflect and reconcile their feelings towards homosexuality."

Earlier this year I was with my boyfriend at the time in a mall and he leaned in to kiss me, but I leaned back. I looked up and saw a man raise a bible at us. I just nodded and looked away. I wish I had kissed my boyfriend then. I wish I had taken action against such a pointless action. What right does this man, who has no idea who I am, have to shame me for my love? Where does it even say in scripture that two men cannot love each other? I was a seventeen year old boy, eighteen now. I've been dealing with these things forever and it's horrible. It never stops. I'm not even Christian and this man is flashing his bible in my face. I should have flashed my love in his face and embraced my boyfriend. People don't realize how these micro-agressions truly traumatize people like me and many others. We can't have peaceful lives because of these things. It's no wonder LGBT+ youth have such large prevalence of anxiety and depression. We don't feel safe being in the public. We don't feel safe in our own homes. We don't feel safe in our own bodies and minds, and I don't understand how people can be this way to other people. Words hurt! Actions hurt! And even if your intentions are good, micro-aggressions have HUGE impact. It's enough!

I remember a quote from somewhere; homophobia is like someone on a diet isn't allowing another person to eat an Oreo. "I'm not, so you can't either!" It's all rather childish.

If people don't support it because of the bible, well the bible also says you can't get tattoos, work on Sunday, eat bacon etc etc sooo....

As someone who has lived in Colombia, the country is very close minded. It is certainly like she says, the bible dictates a lot. It's sad because many things we think are normal, they think are taboo. It is also used as an excuse for hate and discrimination; against anyone who is not like themselves. Women are told to marry young, men to marry women and work and those of color are ridiculed. Yet they say the bible dictates love. It's just very sad

That seems like a very powerful and emotional documentary. But things like homophobia sadly exists in the world.

This is one of the biggest problems in the world. Homophobia connects to so many problems in society like the abondonment of children. I mean in some countries, they say that same sex marriage is going to cause the decrease of population while there are more than 150 million orphans in the world needing food! They don't really think about the bigger picture

Thank you for making this video. This is really dumb. Why do people care what other people do? It doesn't affect them. I am straight, but when I see a homosexual I treat them like anyone else because in the end we are all made of the exact same thing. I have a red heart and homosexuals have a red heart. This is just going back to slavery, but between who you like. If you are homosexual I'm just gonna say I support you all the way! 😀

just goina throw this out here, as a Christian myself, not all of us are taught to hate homosexuals. I was told that I shouldn't agree with them but was told not to hate them as they are people too. one of the biggest lessons I've learned growing up in a church was to love people, no matter what their background is, what their sexual preference are, or the type of person they are today and a lot of Christians are forgetting what that ment

Can't believe we are still dealing with human rights in this day & age. Weather it's equal rights or women right's world wide. Great video & hope it does reach it's goals. Why isn't the U.N. doing more on these issues.
