The hardest part of cold plunging is not talking about it.

Recent studies suggest that the euphoric feeling some people experience after coming out of an ice bath, is that their body is happy that they’re no longer in the ice bath

For some its less about physical benefits and more about mental. Bearing through intense cold makes you stronger mentally.

The real benefit of cold plunging is for actual athletes that need to reduce inflammation and don’t care about hypertrophy, just performance for their sport the next day.

I’m convinced nobody knows. For every study there’s a counter study. For every study there’s an interpretation of that study. I just do what feels right and benefits me.

Ill take ur advice not before or after weight training. I just enjoy how i feel after having one. Its like a natural pre workout. I feel so focused and alert

The book dopamine nation by Anna Lembke briefly goes into the effects of cold water therapy, and how the pain from the cold causes our dopamine levels to rise and also norepinephrine. The levels were measured above baseline well beyond the pain stimulus, for up to a few hours which is why people feel great afterwards. Some people probably experience this effect to a larger degree than others but these im assuming are the psychological benefits that he's referring to.

I love cold plunges on a purely psychological level. It just feels good.

haha exactly why Dr. Mike has such a real preference online. He speaks the truth. Many things in this world make you feel good. I am sad to hear if you do it after a workout it messes up hypertrophy, that sucks. I use cold as an anti-anxiety medication, and it works well. But thats all its for in my world.

Cold plunge is more aimed towards your stimulus response. That cold shock can be controlled, giving you more nervous system control. It can also help your body get rid of excess carbon dioxide. So if you smoke or use stimulants, it would wise of you to incorporate cold exposure so that your blood pressure does not get too high.
