I heard bits of that movement before but always as background music to something else, I went and listened to it when you said and couldn't resist listening to the whole thing. I come back to this video and the first thing you say after I unpause is "You might not be able to stop yourself listening to the whole 8 minutes of it" XD

Wonderful choice, this movement of Beethoven. The 2 bars "mode mixture" are also an almost perfect harmonic march !

Awesome, super informative video as always Doc! It's too bad we missed out on what I'm sure was 15 minutes of pure Gold at the end :) Looking forward to the next one!!

Dr. B, this was a great lecture, even if the audio went down near the end! It was so funny because we could not hear you, but we could see your enthusiasm while answering the last questions, someone even said that you were so absorbed in your explanation and that's great. By the way, I enjoy so much when you analyse pieces from the great composers and thanks for the awesome tips that you gave! I'm looking forward for the next live, I can't wait!

I appreciate the information on the overtone series and the composers of the past who grew up in the Enlightenment era; it's very interesting! You're doing a great service to humanity and the tradition of music with all your videos. You really should be given the U.S. equivalent to being knighted.

Great lesson! Many interesting topics in such a short exposition: the open fifth chord, the use of sequences, mixing harmony and melody, expected vs unexpected, modal mixture and the use the secondary dominants to modulate. I will try to apply this very modulation schema to a piece I am writing today.

31:12 The C to B makes a lot of sense as an incompletely voiced Tritone Substitution, right?

Thanks Professor! I've asked for this lesson a long time ago.
Are you interested in doing an analysis of the love theme from the cinema paradiso by Ennio Morricone? Its a lovely theme

What about an analysis of Shostakovitch's 10th ? and Messiaen 's Vingt regards ? Stravinsky's Sacre du printemps ? Scriabine's 9th and 10th sonatas ? JSBach's Fantasia (from fantasia & fuge) ? Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit ?

I suppose google doesn't have a lipreading option, and the deaf who can lipread would probably not be watching. We could have a forum and try invent what we thought you said. Thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge. It's so appreciated, especially since we don't have the luxury of schools and universities in this African village where I live.

Dr B, great lesson!
I would love if you could analyze a short passage of Rachmaninoff?? Maybe one of the main themes from piano concerto 2 or 3?? I am obsessed with Rach harmonies and his how he makes his seemingly random chromaticism really effective and emotional!
