Small boat refugees won't get citizenship

Refugees who have undertaken a dangerous journey to get to the UK, such as by small boat or by lorry, will be denied a path to UK citizenship under new rules.

They shouldntvget anything but a ride home. Not a penny in benefits healthcare or housing.

They can still get Indefinite Leave To Remain, which grants them almost all of the rights of Citizenship, so the incentive to arrive on a boat is still there.

If arriving on a boat automatically made you an illegal migrant with no asylum process, and deportation by default, the numbers would surely plummet.

Whether the UK population would want this is or not is of course another discussion.

And why would they care? Up until recently my father housed Ukrainian refugees and the older lady received 900 pounds a month from the UK government. She isn't even a UK citizen. As a non citizen are treated like one anyway, given a national insurance number within a week and your kids go to a state school for free. NHS anyone? Why bother when you don't even face the threat of losing your comfortable lifestyle as a non citizen?

Lot of noise about doing something but did sweet F A Johnson gave the go ahead to a
allow people from our former empire in to Britain following Brexit. As we were short of labour in the care/hospital sector

Small boats should not even be allowed in our waters, it’s easy to prevent but this is a gov ran operation.
