MAIL BAG - Urban Explore Core Unit in Action X & Explore

This video will show you how Urban Explore's Core Unit's fit in Action X and Explore backpacks.

Urban Explore packs only come as complete kits, so if you have one and want to use the Core Unit in one of our mountain packs, this video will show you what you can expect. This we potentially save you some money as you only need to buy the backpack shell - not a Starter Kit.

It's a bit confusing, my apologies but the more gear we make the more complex the eco-system gets :)

Also, I did not demonstrate on the actual Explore Series as the rear panel are the same size as Action X.

This video might get a bit confusing, my apologies but the more gear we make the more complex the eco-system gets. Mostly I think the UE20 and UE25 Core Unit's potentially add the most modular value for your backpack needs.
Also, I did not demonstrate on the actual Explore Series as the rear panel is the same size as the equivalent Action X model.

Just fantastic. The only company I’ve seen that’s going to go over the details in such a thorough way.

Love that yellow color! Thanks for sharing how versatile the core units are across the series line.

Saw the Urban Explore 20/25 in a shop last week and can't wait to get one! Unbelievably well-made backpacks, I'd buy every single bag if I could afford it.

This is great, Ian. I have the UE 25 and the Action X 30. I had not had a need to try out the fit of the smaller UE25 CU but had been wondering if that would work when I want to carry a bit more non-photo stuff. You demonstrated that it does and how to do it! Thanks!

Any news on the availability of the large DSLR core unit, my wife ordered the Explore 35 and large DSLR CORE to accommodate her new lens and it has been months now with no core unit and is now questioning if we just sell the explore 35 and get something else as it is just sitting in a spare room in its box still.
Love the bags though, so comfortable when we can use it.

Thaks for this video. I own the UE30 and I'd like to know if the other core units sizes fits in the UB series.

It’s pity that it can’t keep side access function if put standalone small mirrorless core unit into 30L UE to fit more casual scenario.

I hv the urban explorer 30lit
It doesn’t fit the Nikon z8 very well
The side access is too small

Very helpful. Is the core unit page (and fit-table) going to be updated with the Urban Explore core units? I was trying to figure this out recently...

@ShimodaDesigns Can any of the larger (or deeper) core units fit within the UE25? I love mine, but would like to have a slightly larger core unit to fit additional lenses.

What about the small core unit? I never see any videos demonstrating how best to use one. I’ve reduced my kit to one camera and one small lens so I don’t think I’d need anything bigger. I’m tempted by the Urban Explorer but the mirrorless core unit is overkill.

Hope you can sell the urban core unit separately. I really need that extra space for my explore v2 30L

I have the Explore v2 with Small, Medium, and Large mirrorless core units. Since I already have the core units, is it possible to buy the Urban Explore with no core unit?

Have the Urban Explore 30, wondering if you are going to offer the bag/covers for the core unit?

I think as mirrorless becomes (has become) more prolific, light pack travel with bigger/full bodies or gripped bodies are kinda neglected (I understand the paradox).
When travelling other than for work, it's not always a case of take as much gear as possible but rather take what you need and use the rest of the space for travel items.
The only size that is air travel "personal item" under seat compatible (not always either) are the 25L bags.
I'm sorely missing a 26.5cm(W)X16cm(H)X16cm(D) insert to sit horizontally at the bottom of the 25L Action X that would be able to carry a Z9 (or similar large body), and a 24-70

Will you ever sell the explore cores separately?

Hi Ian, love the thoughts that went into making these units.
Currently looking for an EDC companion for my Explore 35, excellent bag for planned shoots, but too bulky for city trips. Are you planning on any sling bags (other than the top loader)? Would love to stay in the ecosystem instead of going PD. Greetings from Kyoto.

Thank you for this video, this was perhaps my biggest question on the Urban Explorer series. I am considering the UE25 as a companion for my Action X50 and as an office/commute backpack (no camera). My only concern is my laptop. I will soon be getting a new work laptop, HP Zbook Fury 16. While the bag can fit a 16" laptop, this one is a beast, with a thickness of 2.86 cm. Will I be able to fit it in the UE 25 or 30l?
