Get ready for DOUBLE the sting as Coyote takes on two caterpillar contenders in this episode! First up, the giant cecropia moth caterpillar with its bristling spiked defense. Then, the tiny but fierce saddleback caterpillar steps up to the challenge. Coyote puts their stings to the test, comparing the pain and reactions from both using the Caterpillar Sting Pain Index. Which will pack the bigger punch? Tune in to find out and witness the intense (and educational!) face-off between these two bristly creatures.

Many thanks to KC Clark and Diane Brooks, our Ohio caterpillar friends, for their work with these amazing creatures.

Coyote? Getting stung? In 2024?

That wasn't on my bingo card.

I just love that whenever coyote's friends find an animal that hurts they just call Peter and be like, you wanna try this?" Lol

I love how the caterpillar carries on moving around the plate even when coyote is experiencing the seven stages of grief 😂

I like how the woman in the video is very calm and says "its burns" and Coyote runs around like he is going to die.

I think both of those caterpillars look pretty cool. The small one look like it was wearing a cool looking little vest on its back, and the larger one look like it had really nice Christmas lights on it or something like that LOL

My theory is that fresh pinaple juice helped with a sting because an enzyme called bromelain that is able to break down proteins so it helps to get rid of the needles/toxins that your skin had contact with.

I used to raise Io moths as a kid and I got stung plenty of times. I never minded the sting too much because of my fascination for the creatures, but it was painful. Nevertheless, even though I was a pretty tough kid, if I could handle it as a kid, you definitely can. As painful as the sting is, it really isn't that bad. They grow into extremely beautiful moths, and the coloration is different on the male vs the female. I love butterflies and moths.
