The Story Of Magna Carta

The Magna Carta, also known as the Great Charter, is a legal document issued by King John of England on June 15, 1215, at Runnymede, near Windsor, England. It is one of the most important documents in English and constitutional history, and has been considered a cornerstone of liberty and justice for centuries.

The Magna Carta was created after a long period of conflict between King John and his barons. The barons were unhappy with John’s heavy taxes and his abuse of power. In 1215, they rebelled and forced John to sign the Magna Carta, which limited his power and protected the rights of the barons and other free men.

This is not accurate. The peasants didnt come to John. It was the nobility that forced him to sign the Magna Carta.

He seems to be getting mixed up between the Magna Carta (1215) and the Peasants' Revolt (1381). Shouldn't try to give a Latin pronunciation when ignorant of Latin pronunciation. Even the phrase (let alone the idea) that "All men are created equal" is much older than the Magna Carta.

Actually.... Jesus said it 2000 years ago. It just takes us a while to catch on.

I’m not 100% sure here but I think he’s getting the peasants revolt of 1381 with a very young King Richard II muddled up with the first barons war in 1215 with King John ...

That pronunciation was a distinction without much of a difference. 😂

I think the closest the magna carta got to this was saying the executive power can't do whatever it wants and needs to abide by law. But it was the pebble that started the legal idea of western liberty.

Commoner and peasant were never official terms. It was Freeman and Serf. And the establishment always wanted to maximize the proportion of freemen in a society, Serfdom (at least in western and central europe) was a safety net for commoners (which is anyone who isnt royalty or nobility, including freemen). Peasant was just an insult for poor farmers.

In the west they might have never heard of equality until then, however, that argument does not apply across the entire world.

Whatever the point is that the phrase of "all men are created equal" has been around for thousands of years. The English has this common misconception that they are the first one to do anything and while proclaiming this they still went on to colonize majority of the world. So what they really meant was all British meant are equal, at best.

The Prophet of Islam (PBUH) made a declaration in his famous last sermon in 650 CE that All men were created equal.

All men are not made equal. One man created ; all others are born.
