Russian logic - ur cleansing Ukrainian monuments for the famine that was caused by the USSR and U cry that someone is taking down ur occupier monuments ?

I have this analogy for you.
Just imagine Denmark or Norway or the Netherlands contemplating in the late 70s rather or not they should tare down their Nazi monuments. And the descendants of German "liberators" and "colonists" are sad that the monuments are being torn down. Like "we liberated you from the Soviets. You should be thanking us. Without Germany, your country wouldn't even exist."
Occupation doesn't define status.
This should have been done in the 90s after the occupation.

If it equates to rewriting history, then I'm sure it's right up the Russian's alley. One only needs to take a glimpse at how Stalin is revered over there.

Take them down and put them all in one park. Then people don’t have to look at it every day.

I think they should look at these monuments on a case-by-case basis, and use aesthetics as their guide.

Actually there is no debate. It's already decided in laws and by mayority of citizens, only few extremists and few persons, who are still longing for criminal Soviet regime, are against it.

I don't have a detail knowledge of Latvia's past specifically of SOVIET era but if the monuments had positive conotation and enjoyed mass approval before Russia-Ukraine War then dismantling symbols of history just out of spite is not rational. Keeping in museum is appreciated.
