Apple's NEW Mac Studio comes with the M1 Ultra chip which packs a powerful 64-core GPU, but can it actually perform well while gaming? I test 10 Different Games to find out!

In this video, I tested 10 different games including Grand Theft Auto V, World of Warcraft, Eve Online, Counter Strike Go, Dota 2, Path of Exile, Starcraft II, Minecraft, the Witcher 3, League of Legends and Fortnite!

I compare all of the scores with the M1 Pro and Max 14/16" MacBook Pros to see if we actually got an improvement with the M1 Ultra chip.

I then give you guys my thoughts on if you should actually buy the M1 Ultra or just stick to the M1 Max if you want to game on a Mac.

Gaming on a Mac is like trying to pull a trailer with a sports car; it’s powerful, but that’s not what it’s meant for. It is interesting to see the results, though. (Who wouldn’t want to watch a video of a Porsche 911 towing a 20, 000 lb trailer?)

So in summary, if a game is optimized for Apple Silicon, watch out.
If a game is at least ported to x86 Mac code base, then you'll get an underwhelming (considering the hardware price point) but still decent enough performance.
If a game has to be run through CrossOver, then don't expect much in the way of stability.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but you should manually update DXVK and MOLTENVK within crossover to see increased performance and less stuttering in games. I think this will make for a great comparison.

Apple has a clear issue with the M1 Ultra. In some cases I had my 14 inch MacBook Pro with M1 Pro out perform the Ultra.

Didn't their graphics performance charts show the graphics has a theoretical 120w shouldn't it be drawing more power than 56w? Maybe the power supply thinks its sending power to the M1Max and is incorrectly limiting it?

What are the FPS when in a battle or raid? It's one thing to get high rates when one character is walking around in a static background and another where there is action from other players and mobs.

I got the Mac mini m1 for web development and world of Warcraft both retail and classic and man this machine was perfect for it. It exceeded my expectations, playing wow at 120 fps is insane lol I can only imagine this M1 ultra.

Simple answer is NO. If your tests get YES, it means you don’t fully release RTX3090 power.

EVE Online has always done pretty well on the Mac; I used to play and would run several accounts on an old 2017 iMac (Intel 7700K I believe, with whatever GPU came in it). They announced a native Apple client a while back I believe.

That World of Warcraft test is not good. You have to test it in a high population area, raid, or a B/G. That starting area was dead as hell and not at all a true representation of gameplay.
