So the new $5000 desktop Mac runs games worse than my 3yr old $1000 mid range laptop...? No surprises here but I'm a bit perplexed as to why Apple decided to pit it against an RTX 3090. Literally a different universe of performance.

Also, it looks like the Mac version of Shadow of the Tomb Raider doesn't have any Ray Tracing so it's numbers would be even worse if that were an option.

While they are undeniably slick machines, I don't think I'd ever pick one up for gaming alone since I have a beast PC. But - this is still a great comparison and review! Very chill and relaxing voice. Subbed!

And here I was thinking that the M1 Max chip in a desktop format would be way cheaper than M1 Max in the MacBook Pro because you bring your own monitor and keyboard. Nope, M1 Max 32 core GPU desktop is 75 percent price of equivalent M1 Max laptop... I thought it would be closer to the price of the Mac Mini than the price of the MacBook Pro 14/16... and I certainly did not expect they would take double the price for M1 Ultra and even more for M1 Ultra with 64 GPU cores... pure insanity and am glad I bought a MBP 14 with M1 Max instead... at least get portability for that exorbitant price... a lot of the value of that efficient chip design goes out the window once it's no longer in a portable format and I wish Apple would recognize that in their pricing.

I’d love to see the performance of Path of Exile in this machine! But every time someone “tests” this game on MacOS, they only run the first map, which is not representative of actual endgame gameplay… I’m trying to chose between the base M1 ultra and the 64 GPUs, and being able to play this game on the same machine I work would definitely make it worth the extra investment… (also the game offers different render engine options and I haven’t seen anyone exploring that in MacOS reviews)

4:00 Only 35% GPU usage, tells you how Rosetta bottlenecked GTA 5 is. Like, holy crap. You would get more GPU utilization if you coupled a 3090 with a slow single core speed server CPU from 2016.

Too many frame drops… M1 chip has reached its limits. I want to believe that M2 CPU is just around the corner..It needs more single thread performance.. at least 2500 Geekbench 5 points. That would be a proper upgrade.

Not for gaming. FPS can be reasonable but still running @ 1080p only. Any RTX 30-series can easily outperform this.

Nice video. If you want to see performance scaling on the M1 Ultra, you'll need to run it at 4k resolution, highest settings. You won't see it at 1080p. The 16"MBP runs SOTR around 33fps so this Ultra should run 45-50fps, which would show good performance scaling.

UOU M1 Ultra is awesome, similar a GTX 1070, RTX 3050 in games, little machine very Strong. but high price for gaming, but good machine for work and gaming

Been waiting for someone to actually try CSGO on the Studio. I get 220 fps on my 4 year old Windows PC in todays exchange rate at around 1500$. Maybe 2000$ back when I bought it. So it’s insane to see that an Apple desktop to actually get the same. Imagine if CSGO was natively supported for macOS…
