Today on NCIX Tech Tips Linus shows how a GTX 670 performs on a variety of different CPUs in some popular modern games. He simulates single core, dual core, quad core, and six core processors and then throws Hyperthreading into the mix to see how that affects things!

Could they update this video? It's been a few years. :I

It would be great if you could update this for 2014/2015. Now that all EA games are going to use frostbite 3. What would be the optimal number of cores. Am I going to see any benefit from getting a core i7 over an core i5. Does hyper threading make a difference? Are games optimised for hyper threading?

Or should I go down the AMD route since the PS4 and Xbox one are running AMD, which means games are developed for those first and ported to PC

Hahaha I love the intro music in these older videos, reminds me of the music used in vintage porn... xD

I'd be very interested in how next gen games will use multi-core processors and whether 6 cores will finally be of any use.

I’m from the future. 4 cores are starting to become very limited. I’m guessing in the next year or so you should really have 8 cores or more. My i7 6700 started becoming an issue so I upgraded to the 3900x and it makes a huge difference.

I know this video is rather old but I think as long as consoles exist the number of cores will be dictated by consoles because devs will tend to care towards the console hardware since that's where most of their games will be sold and since pc's aren't all the same. So just go with the same number as consoles at least with the CPU but it also depends if the dev decides to even really do anything with pc other than a port.

would a GTX 660 be good enough for games like Guild Wars 2 or Tera at High-Max/Ultra settings?

Single-core 8.0 GHz, dual-core 4.0 GHz, quad-core 2.0 GHz, hexa-core 1.34 GHz, or octo-core 1.0GHz: which would win? (even though most of them are impossible)

Atleast 4 core these days, hit up that 1150 board. Broadwell is expected to launch on that board

If I had duel XEON CPU's.. that ran at lets say 3.4Ghz. Would having two of them be 6.8Ghz base clock speed? or does it stay at 3.4Ghz ? I understand that the cores increase, and even the "I THINK" the cache increases as well. But does the clock speed double?

I'm planning on building a computer dedicated to gaming, music production, maybe a bit of photoshop and i might be using game creations kits like Unity. i'm aiming towards the Intel I7 4770K processor would that be the best choice for what i want from my computer or would i need more core's?
