Andrew D. Huberman is an American neuroscientist and associate professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the Stanford University School of Medicine who has made many contributions to the brain development, brain plasticity, and neural regeneration and repair fields. Much of his work is focused on the visual system, including the mechanisms controlling light-mediated activation of the circadian and autonomic arousal centers in the brain, as well as brain control over conscious vision or sight.

Huberman has been credited with coining the term "Non-Sleep Deep Rest" (NSDR), referring to practices that place the brain and body into shallow sleep to accelerate neuroplasticity and help offset mental and physical fatigue.

My son told me recently, “you have to do the thing you hate doing, as if you love doing it.” It works. I think this helps explain why.

No one ever said let me struggle to the point of almost death to climb a land mass protruding from the earth just to see the view from the top. We climb because the journey is rewarding in it of itself and the payoff is the ability to say that I conquered that

I found this approach helped me in the gym. I used to hate going to gym, but now I somehow convinced myself that the effort itself is somehow what I crave.

the feeling of friction and effort being the reward makes me think of high intensity workouts. it’s amazing how rewarding it feels being in so much pain, leaning into the pain and learning to find enjoyment in it.

at university if it was sometimes hard. Then someone said "if it was easy everyone could do this" . this helped me a lot. Because evefytime this ickky feeling came having to study or write a paper: i would lean into that feeling and tell myself "i can do this, this is not for everyone but i can" it gave me a sense of pride and motivation and even the harder it got the more motivated i was

After a very bad accident when I was hit consecutively 4x by a dump truck from behind while stopped in construction traffic; only GOD and I could do the work to fight, to get my life back. Things that were 'easy' before were difficult or impossible then and I hated doing them. With the deficits looming, I quickly realized, those were the very things I had to do, that I had to tackle to regain those abilities again. Because those abilities were the connections that led to a multiple of other things I loved to do! It created a drive, and diligence to overcome my frustration and disdain in my helplessness to do the 'grunt work', to get my life back! I'm one of GOD'S many walking, talking miracles, and HE didn't stop there! 🥳💌

Get into rock climbing. Either indoors or outdoors. As you learn your body it's limits, there is this progression journey that is subtle but so worth it. As time goes on you gain stability, strength, and above all, incredible mental health boosts.

I'm returning to running after a 15 year break and have discovered training schedules that push farther and harder than the day before yesterday. That extra effort at the end is wildly delicious and the wisdom to have a recovery day is exactly what I needed to adhere to before when I was just slogging thru and burned out.

As someone who's been through horrible things all their life, I've found great peace in getting through. Working through my problems. It feels great :) :D

I just started cold showers this morning after watching one of your vids. I could only last 5 seconds. I worked my way to that by turning the hot water down. I couldn’t believe how friggen hard it was to last. I’m going for 10 seconds tomorrow. I did feel great even after 5 seconds. Thanks for knowledge!

So glad I found you through @afterskool Dr. Huberman! I’ve been diving into your work and interviews and it’s been helping me pull through a down time, quit vaping, and a bunch of other things. I’ve decided to start tomorrow- and challenge myself to gtfup! When the alarm goes off. Just for 7 days. Like a challenge… who know- maybe I’ll go for 14 or 30. Or forever!
I know that this will change everything!! Thanks for the reminder that this uncomfortable/ seemingly difficult task will not only become a new habit- but pay dividends for my well being. 🙏

I believe this. Hard work feels good. Makes life worthwhile.
Just need to dig myself out of the everyday mundane.

This makes so much sense. A man isn't created until he breaks open his layers and builds his own reality.

This is ecactly the key to start enjoying exercise, and the difference between people who can maintain an exercise routine and those who cannot.
