This is what happens when you don't properly plan to do things this dangerous, and have zero safety plans. At the very least, he should have had a compact, inflatable, rescue boat with him. Realistically though, he should have had somebody in an actual boat, trailing him, just in case something went wrong. You know, like what happened. I don't even feel bad for him, only his family.

Part of the reason he didn’t have a safety boat following him was because that sea is absolutely brutal. I’m pretty sure they don’t even have cargo ships and things cross through that area. He was basically kayaking through the equivalent of the Bering Strait.
