I would hope wherever you go on "holiday" they have towels, I would forgo the beach-towel and use the space for more clothing. Wear heavier clothing like jeans, oxfords, and blazer on plane or hang in car. If it is strictly a beach vacation wear light weight chinos etc. It should free up more space in your weekender bag.

2 pairs of shoes, 1-2 outfits, underwear....and the person will wear one outfit to the airport...why do you need 3 pairs of shoes for 2 or 3 outfits? the number of clothing items doesn't really add up to the number of pairs of shoes
