It is a tribute song to his great friend and mentor. He flew to Australia for the memorial service. He composed this song while in quarantine and performed it at the service. And yes, he has a baby daughter. Heartbreakingly beautiful song.

You should watch him singing this at the Michael Gudinski memorial. The humming hits different. Until he released the studio version I thought that he was humming in the memorial because his voice would crack of he sang at that moment because he was crying. He left the stage crying.

Had a look on the Interweb and it says that the song is about Ed grieving over the loss of his friend and mentor Michael Gudinsky, who passed away in his sleep aged 68. Michael was the owner of Mushroom Records. / B.

The studio album version has pop superstar Kylie minogue on backing vocals because they both were friends with the man who died

If you guys like Ed Sheeran, I'm hoping you'd also enjoy music by James Blunt. Ed Sheeran is actually the God Father of Blunts oldest son while the late & AMAZING Carrie Fisher was the Godmother. If this song got to you, I recommend the song "Monsters" by Blunt. My other TOP THREE: #1) 1973 #2) OK and #3) DON'T GIVE ME THOSE EYES! His first hits came out in 2004 and they were "You're Beautiful" & "Goodbye my Lover" which ALSO ROCKED! I'd love it if you gave any of these songs a try. P.S. I LOVE the song "SHIVERS" by Ed Sheeran too

Sorry you two were terrible too much inane chatter - ruining a sad but meaningful song that he wrote for a close friend who’d died .
