I wish we had cycle lanes on roads in Delhi as well.

I think a good tip for safety is if you’re not sure, act like a car. At a junction and not sure where to go? Get yourself behind a car and follow them to your turn off. Want to turn right? Get in the middle of the lane and don’t be afraid to stop and hold up traffic for a moment in order to turn right (if a car can, why can’t you?). Also, never EVER EVER EVER go on the left of the bus or lorry. They CANNOT see you and you are putting yourself in danger. Never do this, even at a dead stop. See if you can overtake on the right instead.

Not buying the avoid confrontation advice. People driving like fools and almost killing others on the road deserve a mouth full and then some, it's irresponsible, stupid and reckless.

No.1 is bollocks, being 'more' visible in how you and many others make out does jack shit, you should know this already. All it does it lower the responsibility of those posing the harm. Funny how ninja cyclists are only 8% of the stats at night. If motorists can't see objects with their headlights they aren't looking/seeing properly and/or going too fast. Your reflective clothing mantra has no evidence to support the actuality, indeed pushing for ever more brighter cycle lights just ups the ante even more in the light war and does nothing to increase visibility whatsoever.
