Gears of War Series - Ranking All Games From Solid To Spectacular

Very few franchises have had the kind of impact on the industry that Gears of War did when Epic Games and Microsoft first launched it back in 2006, so it's not hard to understand why the third person shooter series has been as valuable for Microsoft as something like Halo or Forza since its inception.

Sure, it's had its ups and downs, and yes, many might say that it has lost its prestige over time, and that it isn't on the same level anymore under The Coalition's guidance as it used to be under Epic Games- but even when it's flying relatively low, Gears is still worth paying attention to. Here, we're going to rank all mainline Gears of War games from worst to best- though really, a more appropriate way of ranking them would be from solid to spectacular.

Gears 2 had by far the best campaign IMO. But Gears 3 is probably the best overall game.

I believe that Gears 1 had the best campaign. Personally it was a simple story told to perfection at that time. It was in the vein of the original Predator movie in my opinion. They would touch on topics in a subtle way that later evolved through the series. And it also had light horror tone also. If I rank them taking multiplayer in to account. I give it to Gears 2

Just played through the whole series after getting my Series S and it is overall a pretty fantastic series. The first 3 are definitely the best but 4 and 5 ain't too bad really.

My fave nowadays is Ultimate. It's Gears 1, just better, and looking gorgeous. The og experience is there. That's what comes to my mind when thinking Gears: the first game. Horror and action. A hopeless war. A destroyed planet. A dying species. Perfect!

Gears 2 and 3 are my favorite. It’s funny though, when gears of war 2 came out I still preferred playing gears 1. But now over time I’ll still go back to play 2 or 3. Still think gears 1 has the best campaign.

Gears 5 before 1 and 2 is absolutely laughable. This is the third worst Game in the entire Franchise, behind Judgement and 4

Love the original trilogy, even read some of the books because I loved the series so much. Can’t get into 4 or 5 that much, still ok though. Also, I’d go for a game set in the Pendulum Wars right now. Seeing the COG’s military in it’s prime would be pretty cool.
