About Spectre Sound Studios:
I'm Glenn Fricker, engineer here at Spectre Sound Studios. I love making records, and after doing it for sixteen years, I want to pass on what I've learned. On my channel you can find tutorials on how to record guitar, bass, real drums and vocals. There's reviews and demos of tube amps, amp sims, drums, mics, preamps, outboard gear, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and plugin effects.
We've covered Moon on the Water, played Bias FX, given you the absolute best in Stupid Musician Texts, ranted & raved about bass guitar, and this channel is where The Eagle has Landed.
Everything you've wanted to learn about recording Hard Rock & Heavy Metal can be found right here on this channel!

I also respond to your comments & questions: The best make it into the SMG Viewer's Comments series of videos. Loads of fun, lots of laughs.

Just wanted to let those gearsnobs know...I recorded and mixed/ mastered an album last year that charted for 8 weeks in the top 10 of the German Alternative Charts. All guitars and cabs were Harley Bentons with a Peavey Transtube Surpreme 100.The rest was pretty much all Behringer and T-bone gear and two 57s....Nobody complained about the sound😂

The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid people ones are full of confidence.

Who else was worried that Glenn would shout "Fuck You" to the guy from the first comment, in the middle of a Japanese city?

I don't think I've ever seen such a colorful city. Awesome as always!

About the guy with the Crate cabinet. The holes may be sdmaller than what the speaker requires for a FRONT mount. But maybe the speakers were REAR mount in that cabinet

For the sound level, my experience comes from the front of house sound side. I can tell you that paying attention to the specs on a given speaker system can be the difference between a system that cuts through a room and a system that feels lazy no matter how much power you put into it.

A company I worked for (this is a long time back) needed some small systems for school auditoriums. They gave me some general ideas and I went off. Being in Canada. the choice ended up on with Traynor / Yorkville Elite series (the first ones, I think)... 100db+ at 1m/1w... bought a couple of them without even hearing them, pulled them out the boxes, tossed them in the back of a truck with some other gear, and went to do a school talent show or something like that. These things screamed! So little power, so much presence... first time I had spent the whole night turning stuff down!

The specs do matter... and your ears will know the difference.

I went to Akihabara with my sons and my dad - and skipped out for half an hour to check out a great bass guitar shop nearby. I hope you got to check out all the guitar shops at Ochanomizu! I spent 2 days there. Wonderful shops!

for the amount guitarists claim to have divinely blessed ears it sure seems like they have a problem hearing what you're actually saying 😂

I think when choosing guitars it's best to choose a guitar that feels comfortable. I tried an $150 epiphone SG vs a 4k explorer, and the SG just felt better. I still believe superstrats are the most comfortable guitars (especially Ibanez). In the end, an electric guitar is a tool that lets you play around with an electromagnetic field. So a guitar that is comfortable and easy to play will give you the best results. Try before you buy, and don't look at the price (it's just a number in the end).

That comment from the synth user is spot on. I'm not into metal at all but I also do synths myself. But I'm also old enough to have an original Juno and an original DX7 and when I went to uni to do audio engineering, I had access to aload of old synths of various stripes.
Today's VSTs are so close you'd not tell for the most part, and you'd DEFINITELY not tell if in a mix. I still prefer hardware purely because it's tactile and I like it, but I'm not making shit up though.
Also the Behringer and other cheap clones are fucking awesome - wow, do the purists ever rag on about Behringer.

One of my friends from high school was a gate keeping drummer, saying that double bass is 'fake talent'. She also hated metal and loved Nirvana

I used to go to Saturday jam nights all the time. The host had a 100 dollar POS guitar. We all called dibs on THE TIME. We all brought or fancy Jacksons and Ibanez and but all wanted to play on his knock off low budget POS. It just played and sounded SO GOOD !!

Don't get me wrong I haven't used Crate since the 90's but if you can get a hold of a Solid State cab for the Excalibur 2200 ( ps. Built like a tank) or the can for the Blue Voodoo 120 they are built tough as hell . I had a nice guy who played rhythm for me for a bit and he bought a newer crate stack and they didn't seem road worthy, good thing he lety guitar tech do some bracing because it wouldn't of lasted 2 months on the road.. However the first 2 cabs I named anyone knows where either of those can be found let me know I want to load one with the EV300 Black Label Edition, I am sure I will need to clean it up but seriously if you know where either of those heads are that BV120 was on atleast 2 Megadeth albums with Marty Friedman who was endorsing Blue Voodoo series and they were fucking amazing live for him and Dave, Countdown to Extinction and Youthanasia not sure but had a friend say they started with Crate Blue Voodoo 120 on Rust in Peace so there is Crate amps for you but that solid state Excalibur Series was better than Randall I thought because I played Cowboys from Hell on it amd it was. Fucking LOUD

Bought a chibson explorer for 290 at Fiery Brothers music in tulsa, feels great and plays great. Saved some money and it makes me happy. I might buy that sweet ass schecter explorer one day but this one has got me playing every single day after work.
