Is Gotham knights really the game we wanna have this conversation over? Even on top of the line PCs the game runs like poo.
The series S is not what made this game mediocre.

If your game need top of the line graphic to be considered 'good', then it probably isnt that good to begin with

"It´s not as straightfoward as lowering the resolution and getting higher fps"

-lowers resolution from 4k to 1440p on pc and gets higher pfs

Xbox Series S owner. Maybe make the standard PS5 and Xbox Series X actually buyable. Im not going to spend 800$ + because scalpers 2 years later are still buying out all the consoles before they hit stores. The Xbox Series S is only $300 and some change and can practically do everything the X does minus disc and less storage space ( Which you can change ). The console Series S has saved next gen gaming by allowing thousands if not millions to be able to actually play next gen games without dropping $800 on a $499 console.

If devs can make pc games run on not only a variety of hardware, but a variety of combinations of said hardware, then the whole Series S is a bottleneck argument seems like nonsense.

Remember when developers had to actually optimize games and work within limitations instead of just relying on more expensive hardware

Seems to me that this is less of a Series S issue and more a problem that WB Games canceled the wrong versions of the game. Everything about this game just seems like it was built with PS4 and Xbox One in mind, but instead of giving the devs enough time to optimize the game for current generation they just had them port it over and call it a day. I'm not even someone that cares about frame rate that much but even I think 60 fps should be the bare minimum for this gen.

It just sounds like developers don't want to DEVELOP

XBox Series S is current generation as is XBox Series X. Forget running games on X if it doesn’t run on the S. The S ain’t holding squat back. Developers struggling with it obviously don’t understand the architect, infrastructure, and all that sort.

If the Series S is the reason Gotham Knights is only 30 FPS on the Series S/X, then why is it also only 30 FPS on the PS5?

No, I don’t believe the Series S is holding back some games, otherwise Sony would be getting tons of games that are not hamstrung by the Series S limitations, and therefore run better on the PS5. And Sony would ABSOLUTELY let you know about it…

What.

As long as the game is good and is mostly bug free, i don't care much about 30fps or the highest graphic setting. At first it's nice to look at but good gameplay captivates me more then graphics and over 30fps

A thing I'm kinda confused by is why they're not trying to adapt and maybe head towards a more stylized direction with modern games, especially if they know they're going to be hardware limited. That's what developers did on the older consoles especially like pre 360 erra where the most recognizable games were heavily stylized. I don't think that even on pc there are any non-simulation games that absolutely need a lot of power to run. Those that do are typically very niche games, heavily modded, poorly optimized or are glorified tech demos. If not even pc has games that need a lot of power for base features, I'm sure consoles won't need it either. I'm pretty sure the switch is still chugging along fine despite being weaker than some modern smartphones. You should see what some people make with a game engine like pico-8, the engine is literally made to be super limited and people still make fantastic games with it.

I personally feel like these developers are aiming their frustration at the wrong people, it's always been the higher ups that have been the issue in game development, they always want the latest and greatest graphics and gimmicks, and they want it yesterday. Yeah the consumers want that too, but likewise we're also happy with less, we're just conditioned by the modern industry to want that stuff. The existence and growing popularity of indie games show that we can be ok with less and that gameplay is more important.

People act like 60 FPS is some new high bar and not what most Super Nintendo games (Yes Super Nintendo) ran at consistently. 60 FPS isn't even that high of a bar in modern gaming, many games can boast way higher than that

I hope that next gen consoles will get DLSS 3 or something similar technology from AMD, so all games will be a minimum of 60fps and 120fps will be more accesible in 4K.

So honest question, do developers not work on game optimization anymore? Cause seeing the Switch run Doom and Doom eternal natively is pretty amazing, so not sure why the series s can't do something similar on other titles.
