SpaceX Starship with artificial gravity concept.
This is an unofficial concept created by us and not SpaceX or Elon Musk.

If you like this concept, we could do a more in-depth video about it and going more into the technical aspect of it. Write in the comments if you would like this.

Hope you all like this concept. I want to get more into artificial gravity concepts in the near future. feel free to make suggestions on the design.

I think this concept would be much more practical to make not one, but two counter-rotating arms to prevent the rest of the ship from rotating (in space, where you don't have a any fulcrum outside of your system, parts of this system become such fulcrums for each other.). Additionally, it would prevent the ship from occasional tumbling due to Dzhanibekov effect.
As for the animation itself, it is great!

for the love of making us a multiplanetary species specex, hire this animator already!

You could add transparent glasses and maybe a Concert hologram, that would be pretty cool

since this is all concept stuff, maybe it would make sense to rotate the modules 90 degrees after they are extended so that the force acts in the direction of the floor same as when the starship is sitting on the pad. The way you have it now, the occupants would not have a flat surface to stand on.

you could attach 2 starships together, nose to nose, using a long tether or something and then spin them

While an interesting design, some thoughts I had were:
1. With all of those flat surfaces holding back pressure, seems like it would take a lot of mass to hold that form.
2. It seems like we haven't really figured out what we need for artificial gravity, so this makes a lot of assumptions.
3. Why not just have two Starships tethered together? This way the forces line up with how it would be on the ground. Also could make those tethers as long or short as you want to get the job done.
4. With two tethered Starships, you could have a transfer vehicle move along a tether to go between the two Starships.

An excellent concept ... I'm anxious to see part 2 with all the mechanical, physical and structural details including: 1) how you intend to keep the individual arms balanced to avoid the inevitable centrifugal wobble and offset torques that would lead to a rotating or precessing center axis; 2) how you would set up the docking /undocking of visiting spacecraft to deliver crew and supplies; 3) why you chose an extensible square structure for the arms and not a triangular one; 4) how the little pod would travel through the arms to and from the extended pods from the center section; 5) how you would optimize rotation rate and arm length to provide the correct amount of artificial gravity, etc., etc. Please keep up the good work - the graphics are excellent - now bring the experts in to polish up the physics and mechanics.

Don't you need one going in the opposite direction to avoid a torque affect along the axis?

I’ve been waiting for this video maybe make the extendable hands passage ways for people to go through to get to the other sides

It is a neat solution but I think carries a large mass penalty. The best solution I have seen is to have two Starships tethered at their tips with a tether a few hundred meters long. It adds almost no mass and provides a much larger radius, which makes it much more comfortable for the passengers. The spin up and spin down would be done with the already existing thrusters, so essentially the cable and winching system is the only thing that would need to be added/changed. It would not even need much structural strengthening as the Starship can already be lifted from its nose in earth gravity so it will easily handle the pull of the cable.
One Starship could be dedicated to passengers only and the other only cargo.

make a video of two starships, joining together from one nose cone, using same extendable elevator concept to another nosecone and than rotating to create artificial gravity.

this will also be very interesting

I’d modify the concept to three nacelles. Flatter interior floor leading to more usable space under development. Four would be best, but the arm mechanism for four would take up a lot of space. I’d also suggest a Kevlar type cloth interior liner for the deployment arms to allow interior movement by crew members to the rest of the ship without having to put on their EVA suits. I’m assuming the standard crew uniform would be a form of skin suit so if a sudden hull breach occurred, they would just have to find the nearest helmet and snap it into place.

Great idea!
A second arm rotating the opposite way to prevent general rolling, and a similar heat shield as the space shuttle’s would be amazing additions to make the whole concept more realistic I believe

Those telescopic arms are essentially impossible. In order to deal with the inertia of the 'pods' their wall thickness and small section length would render them hugely heavy.

Apart from that, the fact that the floors of the pods will have an arc radius of 4.5 metres but are rotating at 30 metres radius or more means there is only about a 1 metre wide strip of floor along the centre of each pod that would be level enough to stand on. Walk away from that centre strip and you will be walking up a rapidly steepening concave hill.

The idea is great and I love it. Is it possible you could make another video about it with more data? Like the Coriolis effect, speed of rotations and so on.

Also how do people work on it, where do they sleep, etc.
Amazing simulation as always though!

Great job! Now for the interior of this concept, please.

I see a huge problem, we had in discussions in the BTE project. And Gateway Fundation also has no solution.
The whole spaceship must rotate.
How can it be possible to have a rotating element and a non rotating element (rocket & front), and of course to keep all inside the habitable zone, and no need of space suit. How to keep the 'center' of the ship pressurized ?
Also if the whole spaceship rotates : no need for devices/hardware to rotate the 'arm' : less need of maintenance/failure

I like the idea. Its a good concept that looks like it will work. Go for it. It will put us one more step to the stars. Humans are explorers. You have made one giant step toward the stars. Think where we will be in 100 years.
