The thing I always appreciated the most about Helen’s teacher is that she did not treat her like anything other than a normal girl. She put the same expectations on her, the same standards, same disciplinary action and same treatment a non-disabled child needs. And that is how it should be. Being disabled doesn’t mean a child should get away with being a brat.

Helen Keller while disabled achieved difficult things that even the average person doesn't like graduating Phi Beta Kappa from a Ivy League college because of her beloved teacher Annie Sullivan first expecting her to be able. Her parents realizing the need for and stepping forward in getting help for Helen, then taking the more difficult step back to allow Annie to do her job was the best things they did for her. Annie was perfect for the job because she having had difficulties with her own vision had absolutely no pity for Helen. Annie showed the parents that basically allowing Helen to just roam around with far less awareness of the world and manners than even a domesticated animal was majorly neglectful and not actually showing her love. Children need discipline and hearing " NO ! " when necessary along with the proper guidance from adults to learn about life and how to function in society.

I remember watching this movie in grade school. I thought it was a wonderful movie that really showed the darkness of what Helen went through and that there was a way out and a way to communicate and see. It's beautiful

Its a wondeful movie with an amazing plot. It gets extremely aggravating with the parents sometimes but the movie is tied together so well and all the roles were played perfectly. Loved it all the way around
