Remember the good old days when light speed couldnt be used if you were too close to a gravity well?
Pepperidge farm remembers.

Leia literally said in the movie that they were allowed to escape and that they were tracking them. Help

"Boy you said it Chewie! I was this close to going back and helping those people!"

My only problem with the end is that… well, they couldn’t do that without doing a far more complicated pattern of multiple jumps. Hyperspace doesn’t function if a ship is too close to a gravity well, which is why the Interdictor Class Star Destroyer was such an important tool in the Empire’s arsenal, once it got invented. With the Death Star’s size, that gravity well problem is even bigger.

Alternatively, a moon doesn't do too well if its planet suddenly blows up.

One of the guys in charge of firing the death star laser was traumatized from blowing up alderaan and delayed the firing sequence as well. Might be legends material now

At the time, the explanation was that they had to follow the hyperspace route, and there was a needed recharge before hyperdrives were improved on, also leia mentions how they were being tracked and they couldn't transmit the plans because it could've been intercepted and there could've been issues if the empire followed their path and found Yavin IV...in episode IV

Before Disney, Death Star has a recharge time of about an hour, improved to about 10 minutes on DS2. Before Disney, star systems had a gravity well preventing jumps near stars and planets, so you had to plan where and when you came out of hyperspace. After Disney, no rules just do what sounds cool.

Counterpoint: That's not how hyperlanes work. You have to drop out a certain distance from a gravity well, and safe Hyperlanes (the ones that are mapped and reliable) have specific entry and exit points within a system. The rest of it is pretty spot on though.

They don't even need to go to the other side of the planet. They can literally blow it up from any angle.

I personally attribute this to the Death Star plans being so large and complex that they literally couldn’t be transmitted. It would explain why the plans have to be stored on a physical card rather than a network as maybe they’re just too large to store digitally without them being corrupted. Also transmitting the plans on Scarif makes sense considering how big the transmitter on Scarif was compared to the Tantive IV

That wasn’t how hyperspace worked back then there were preset routes you needed to take if you didn’t want to crash into something you can’t just light speed wherever or whenever you wanted too.

Leia knew they were veing tracked, and the rebels took the opportunity to destroy the deathstar. The empire played right in to the rebels hands.

If the empire could track the millennium falcon with an external tracker, couldn’t that same tracker look into all transmissions and messages?

I mean the Death Star could also just obliterate the planet then the moon.
