My pal fell out of a canoe off a beach on a beauty of a day...he had a wet suit and a life jacket. He had never been in the water before and panicked... he grabbed my boat and me so hard and nearly pulled me in with him. Had to bat him away with my paddle. He was never going to drown but if he got hold of me he would have held me down.

I must of been through at least half a dozen different classes in my younger days - first-aid (3 times), life saving (2 times), water rescue, life saving merit badge (boy scouts), life guarding, there were multiple mile swims, the endless rescuing the 10 lb rubber brick from the bottom, rescuing swimming it for a 100 yards while holding it out of the water, rescuing "Resus Annie" towing her or a person with your arm over their shoulder, hand under their opposite armpit, all over and over, hours on each drill. Everything was sidestroke with frog kick, always. So now it's only eggbeater?

As s rescue scuba diving looking to get lifeguard trained i see alot of similarities in the training, when we have a panicked diver trying to grab us were trained to just drop back underwater away from them since they would never want to follow us down.

Hey justin. When swimming breaststroke or butterfly I take a breath but i go underwater and it's annoying and take a lot of energy. Am i doing breaststroke and butterfly breathing wrong.

Thank you for this video. My friends and I all went tubing and my friend tipped over and she panicked and wasn’t swimming just going under water. She was able to drift a little to the side and finally stand on rocks but I seriously didn’t know what to do but watch along with other friends.. it’s was scary and glad she’s okay but I definitely don’t want to witness a fatal drowning.
