One thing that nobody can deny is that Linux is getting better and windows is getting worse.

I am 74 and started out using DOS and building my own computers for my office. Transitioned to Windows 3.11 for the ease of creating my own interoffice network. As time progressed, I moved to Windows 95, then Windows 98, Windows 7, and now Windows 10. I have thought about moving to Linux, but was just needing a push. So about 6 months ago I installed a virtual machine on my home computer and am learning Linux. It really is easy. I have installed Linux Mint now on my computer and Good By Windows!!

I moved over from Microsoft and Microsoft Office to Linux Mint and Libre Office about a year ago. I didn't want to trash my two computers just because my computers were not compatible with Windows 11. Best move I ever did.

Glad to see there's someone else who recognizes software/hardware subscription as a market control on end users. If you don't own it entirely, it isn't yours.

I've also been using Linux for over 20 years – BUT not for free – I regularly donate to the projects I use daily. Microsoft products require purchase, and you also pay with your data. Anyone who switches to Linux should also use their freedom to support the open source world with donations.

I recently let my Microsoft 365 subscription expire and moved to Libre Office. Sure, there is a learning curve, but it's easier than most people think. I'm also 100% on Linux now and I love it. I'll never go back to Windows

Been using Open Office or Libre Office for decades. Glad to hear how happy people are to use it. Enjoying your comments about it and pleased to hear more. Keep it up!

I've been using Linux for 33 years (the same age as GNU/LINUX) until today. That's why I believe I'm one of the few people in the world who's never used Windows in their entire lives, because I've never had the need to use Windows until today. And the reasons for not using Windows (not even considering the issue of computer viruses and the like) seem to have been perfectly described in this excellent video. Warm greetings from Chile.

I am almost 73 years old and although I have been using windows since 1993, I am sure no computer whiz. I have a nice desktop that I might not use for a month at a time. I had become so frustrated when I really needed to use it and would have to wait for an update, or figure out why Microsoft wanted me to jump through hoops to get access.
When I bought a new laptop to use with an automotive scope, I took the plunge and installed Linux that I had heard about online for years and deleted Windows . I chose Ubuntu for reasons I don't remember, but I sure don't regret it. Now I watch YouTube and browse on my laptop instead of Ipad most of the time because the screen is held vertically without a stand. It was fun learning how to delete Windows and how to manage partitions and install Linux and use the Terminal. I can easily do updates at my leisure.I love it.

As an IT director I am a huge Linux fan but decided to try to use it for my work laptop now and so far so good.

I moved to Linux over a year ago. There were some slight hiccups, but by and large I've had a great experience. I left Windows 10 after Recall was announced. What kept me on Windows for so long was the software I was using, but I decided to let it go and find alternatives, and I've been perfectly happy.

My first adventure into computers was in 1980 when working for a major international company and in order for me to do my job, I eventually got a monitor and keyboard to have access to the company's main frame. I also needed training, which I got from our MIS department, which all of the system was home grown.
As soon as Compact was able to decrown IBM, I built my first computer, using DOS, costing some $4K for all of the components and a capacity of 80Mb! I've built three systems in total learning ways to increase capacity beyond what a HD was listed at. I never jumped I into Linux, but had seriously considered it in its early days.
Long story short. I have taught at a technical Uni in Austria for 7 years, with programming students, and one of the things I learned was never to change a good OS. My old laptop is 20 year old, still using the old OS and programs, not connected to the Net.
After seeing this discussion, I'll be porting over to Linux, perhaps some of my old, non subscription programs can port too. I'm retired, 78, don't need all the bells and whistles anymore. 👍👍👍

I've been using Linux since the mid 1990s. Been hearing this same speech for 34 years now, but we all know Linux will never be mainstream. It is mostly used in server environments, except for large companies that still use a flavor of UNIX such as Solaris). Oh, and most companies that do use Linux use a paid distro so that they can get support.
