Hi guys, I decided to make this video for those of you looking to start playing the Sicilian but just want an easy option. We can avoid all the complicated and theoretical lines of say the Najdorf or Dragon yet still get a healthy, playable position.

Hope you enjoy the video!

Why play this Sicilian?: (0:00)
3.d4 Open Variation: (1:33)
3.c4 Maroczy Bind: (8:00)
3.c3 Anti-Sicilian: (9:45)
Outro: (11:40)

Hey Molton. I would like to thank you for your analysis in this video. I prepared this line as a surprise weapon for my opponent and won a very comfortable game in the British Chess Championships. I haven't played a sicilian in 13 years but I am looking forward to springing this line again in club play in the future.

It’s funny—I started playing the O’Kelly several months ago and precisely because of the high playrate of 3. d4 at my rating level (non-masters). It’s such an easy to learn and you’ve done a very nice job covering the main lines and ideas.

I'll stick to my Kan and Taimanov for now but I'll definitely sprinkle some O'Kelly. Thanks for great content :)

I would've loved to see what you reoommend after nxd4 nf6 bd3 instead of nc3 as its a critical line

Thank you so much. Its a very nice system and great explanation.
What could you say about next variation:
3.d4 cd
4.N×d4 e5
5. Nf3 Nf6
6. Bg5
It looks like a logical move

Thanks for the useful lesson! Why would you want to put the knight on d7 instead of c6?

why do you say @11:19 Be7 not Qc7 because gets hit with Nd5? Wouldn't exd5 be fine after Nd5? After Rd1 you went Qc7 anyway

at the 10:47 mark of the video, why does black move the knight to Nd7 instead of Nc6?
thank you!

Hi, I know I'm asking this months after video was released. But, was hoping you could tell me what line you prefer vs. 4.QxD4 ? I've tried a few things, but if they follow up with Bishop to D2 it seems to really make most counterplay difficult. Thanks!

At the end of the section on the Maroczy Bind GM Molton says that Black intends to "castle Queen-side". I assume he meant to say King-side.

Hi Molton, in white d4 open sicilian line. What should black do if White plays Bg5 instead of Nxe5? How can we deal with the pin. Thank you

Nice! Some lines look kinda similar to the Najdorf, might try it soon.

Is it possible to play a Closed Sicilian against other, Non-Sicilian, openings?
