How to create a button to run a macro in Excel using a shape and an icon

The Form control buttons are handy, but they look quite outdated. We can use shapes and icons in Excel to create modern-looking buttons to run our macros.

Hi Celia. Thanks for the tricks. For buttons made from a rectangle shape, I like to format as: Shape Format >> Shape Effects >> Bevel >> Round (the first choice) and then select an appropriate color to match the theme of the workbook/worksheet. It makes a nice looking button (my opinion). Also worth mentioning that when you add an icon object on top of the button shape object, before grouping, the icon object should also be assigned to the same macro as the button shape object or you get a dead spot over the icon shape when trying to press the grouped final button image. I learned that one the hard way :)) Thanks for sharing your tips! Thumbs up!!
