You Sir, are a hero. We got flooded out here in our house in the Philippines yesterday, and I had years of work on my laptop (which will need repairing - if it can be fixed) - not all backed up to external drive as I used my old laptop for the older stuff. Except I had gone to a new password a year or so ago and forgot my old one. This worked like a charm. Thank you!!

I followed your "how to" and now I can get into my "brand new" Linux Mint 19.2 install. Kisses and hugs for doing this. A BIG thanks!

Hi Abishek, when I click on "Root – Drop to root shell prompt" it asks me for rootpassword but I'm unable to type anything at the prompt. If i click I get a message that password is not correct... What do I do? Appreciate your help. Got this computer but cannot get into it as the guy forgot the password to enter into Ubuntu...

Thanks for sharing. When I got to recovery mode and press enter I don't see recovery menu to root shell prompt but a list of scripts instead. Why is that?

It's not working properly for me, here I am getting three versions for me and if I use any of the version then going to root shell prompt it's coming as root password for maintenance ? Please reply me as fast you can. And there no letters are not showing on the screen.

This worked, thank you! I'm not even a computer expert but I am a bit techy. The only part that confused me a little is when you type and re-type the new password, the cursor doesn't move. I thought I was doing something wrong but understand that for security purposes, it doesn't even show blanks or the cursor moving. I saw your cursor didn't move and of course I also searched it on ubuntu Help. Thanks again!
