Yeah this is great, and I'm sure Mike is not saying. "Don't say these common words" He's giving you variations of these words that we do indeed say in daily life. By all means say hello/sorry/goodbye and the other examples. But you may not always get the 'standard' way of being greeted by locals.

This was much more informative and practical than when I did the slang lesson and had kids calling their boyfriend/girlfriend their "boo"
