First things first, let’s talk about joining a public multiplayer server in Minecraft 1.20.1. This is easiest way to play Minecraft 1.20.1 with your friends. Once you have the server IP address, open up Minecraft 1.20.1, click on “Multiplayer”, and the click on “Add Server”. You can name the server anything you want. You can also make sure that you keep control of the world and the server won’t randomly disappear overnight.

Now, there is one more way to play Minecraft Java Edition with your friends. That is playing on a singleplayer world using LAN. This does require that you are on the same internet connection as the person playing on your server, but to open up a LAN world, pause Minecraft in a single player world. Then, click “Open to LAN”. Change the settings and click “Start LAN World”.

From there, your friends can open up Minecraft, click “Multiplayer” and wait a few minutes. Assuming they are on the same internet connection, they will see the world at the bottom of the multiplayer screen. They can double-click to join it.

LAN never works with me. I've tried everything I've network reset I've let it through the firewall I made sure it's on the same network I've done everything but my Lan server doesn't even pop up on my friends computer. It's really painful and I don't know what's wrong.
