The Appendix on ultrasound and Acute appendicitis | Radiology

Acute appendicitis is an acute inflammation of the vermiform appendix. It is a very common condition in general radiology practice and is one of the main reasons for abdominal surgery in young patients. CT is the most sensitive modality to detect appendicitis.

Findings on ultrasound: Aperistaltic, non-compressible, fluid-filled blind-ending structure with outer diameter of more than 6 mm.

Hyperechoic appendicolith with posterior acoustic shadowing.

Normal 5 layers implies non-necrotic (catarrhal appendicitis).

Loss of wall stratification implies necrosis.

Gas locules in appendicitis indicate gangrene.

doctor recently i had ct scan which shows hyperdense clips in anterior abdominal wall in myofascial planes in unbicial quadrant quadrant with wall thickening and write rectus abdominis muscle with thickening of underneath peritonial fascia peritoneal fascia and mild standing of adjacent mescolic fat plane and omomentum also ultrasound suggested gaseous distension of descending colon is seen but radiologist surgeon refuse to be a appendix. My right side pain is getting severe as no kidney stones are found. I m very confused recently I had a hernia surgery can you please explain these terms
