I have bronchitis. (Male, age 66. Asthma.) Yesterday, I thought I was dying as I could not get enough air in my lungs. I was hacking and coughing up thick yellow phlegm. My heart was racing and my temperature was 101F. I was so fatigued I could only walk thirty feet without having to rest. I thought I might have a heart attack. The doctor gave me some oral vaporized medication (Albuterol Sulfate?) which was a slight improvment. She then prescribed Prednisone (20mg, two tablets in the morning for five days); Benzonatate (100mg, three times a day as needed); and three puffs of Albuterol Sulfate 90mcg throughout the day). No antibiotics were prescribed. Tests and X-rays ruled out the Flu, Covid-19, and Pneumonia. Update: The Prednisone acted like a miracle cure. By the end of the evening, I was able to breath much more normally. The following morning I felt practically cured, but for the hacking, which is subsiding. I am still fatigued, but constant coughing will do that. Best of luck to all in Britain from an American in America.

Take a multivitamin (any brand), vitamin C, D3, Zinc, B Vitamins, stay hydrated - drink a lot of water. Get at least 30 minutes of excercise daily or at least 5 days a week. Don't smoke - anything and stay away from places that allow smoking.

When should I get antibiotics? My bronchitis started without fever but with cough and purulent phlegma. I tried to cure at home for 2 weeks. Nothing has changed. I saw dr after 16 days of start bronchitis and didn’t get antibiotics. After next week of treatment dr said we should started antibiotic 1 week ago. 4 days after using of antibiotics i got dyspnea and a lot of dense transparent pleghm till today.

That was very informative for me. I was diagnosed with asthma as a child. It eventually went away. Now in my old age I believe I have asthma and chronic bronchitis. I can live with occasional coughing and phlegm. I can run. But am I doing damage to my lungs with the coughing?

I felt sick i think on december 19, then it started to make me sicker after a day or two. I had fever, then cold block nose, sore throat, then I had fever. Then I started coughing the following days. I had phlegm with bacteria coz it looks yellow. Than the phlegm is already clearing, but I still have untill now the coughing because it is itchy down my lungs or now i feel bad coz I can't breath properly I feel like something is stuck in my lungs. I feel my lungs can't get enough air. I also feel that something needs to get off inside. The sputum is very very less but very sticky, it's now plain color. I also keep feeling this difficulty swalowing my own saliva coz if I do i feel like i can't push it in, the feeling that something in my throat and air passage is getting stuck together. I feel heavy chest. I really feel so bad especially when laying on bed. I am doing some nebulizing. I hate getting sick it's terrible feeling specially lungs. I think I had bronchietis 4x but in different years. It isn't continous so I probably should say this is acute not chronic. I don't know what I got where i got it, maybe dirty hands or something, or i inhaled something. I can't tell. It's january 3 and i still feel so bad in my lungs, I am having ahardtime breathing. I don't like coughing coz it hurts my chest, my cage feels it's going to be broken. I wish I will heal soon. I know bronchietis takes longer to heal.

When there is inflammation of the airways that carry air to your lungs this condition is known as Bronchitis. This inflammation of the bronchial tubes causes cough with mucus, low-grade fever, shortness of breath, wheezing. If chronic bronchitis than it leads to COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

Excess cigarette smoking is the main cause of bronchitis. Exposure to air pollution, inhalation of dust for a longer period also leads to this disease.
