I really enjoyed hearing about your gmas frugal ways. Isn't it amazing how the older generations seemed to instinctively know what was good for them, with out having all the scientific reasons spelled out? I remember going for walks after every meal, watching them eat very small portions of all the dishes on the table, drinking prune juice, etc. One of the frugal things that I recall her doing is re-using every single plastic bag/container over and over until it was worn out.

I have a dryer rack that I bought at IKEA for about $15 and have used it for 5 years. I use it for everything except sheets. It saves so much money! Lingerie and clothing lasts so much longer and looks so much better for longer.

I have to add heat and air to my home and my rental this summer. I plan on getting mini-splits -wall units for each area. Should be maybe a quarter of the cost of central, no duct work, so no dirt and dust blowing. Just a washable filter on the room units. If one part of the unit needs to be replaced, even the control unit, I don't have to replace or repair an entire central unit. And i can heat or cool each area independently.

I plan to buy solar panels for when the electricity goes out. I need a reliable back up heating system because I don't trust our government.

Good advice. I learn a lot from my grandmother also. There are a lot of elderly people that are full of wisdom but so many young and middle age people don't want to listen.❤❤

What excellent advice on frugality, living well and family life. Also I loved how you made suggestions. So often YouTube influencers are very insistent that we need to follow their edicts, that we need to do such and such. Well you were not insistent just informative!

My mom had a stand up attic and would hang dry winter or summer all our clothes. We used to laugh 😂 because many times in the winter the jeans were frozen dry and could stand up on their own. She also said the walk up and down the stairs gave her exercise.

I loved this episode when it first came out, and I still think about you and your brother and your grandmoms. Thank you for sharing this. My parents grew up during the depression. Their stories and those of their contemporaries have much to teach us.

Yep I used to make my kids baby food when they were little babies. I used the water from the steam veggies to puree. Bean water we used that as soup bases...and for rice...casamiento in Spanish. It's nutritious and no waste.
I too hang dry. And clothing that needs dry cleaning I wash on my delicate cycle with almost ni soap. Hang dry. Never had an issue.

Fun and interesting video! I use my kids’ cereal milk to make myself a nice cup of hot chocolate. It’s already sweet, and sometimes cinnamon-y too.

My grama had a washer and dryer set. Never set up the dryer and always used the clothes line outside. When my sister and I would visit in the summers, that's how we would do our laundry too. I've got good memories and try to use my own clothesline as much as I can on especially warm days. It is amazing how I can fit two full sets of bed sheets on the line. Such a time saver!

Again, another great and interesting video with great content. My grandmothers were champions at reusing and repurposing EVERYTHING!!!! And, another thing I learned (reminded me when you talked about no food waste) was to save the scraps and peelings from vegetables to boil and make homemade vegetable broth. Boil it and strain out the broth to freeze for later use. So

Awesome, sweetheart. It's a win win win, and one never ever forgets what they used to say and how. I was very close to my grandma on my dad's side and I will always take a piece of that with me. Amazing financial hints. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
