Volvo Trucks – Testing a hydrogen-powered electric truck in the Arctic

Fuel cell technology has been proven to deliver the power needed for heavy-duty trucks on the test track. Now it’s time to take the next step. We tested one of our fuel cell-powered trucks in Kiruna, one of the furthest-north points in Sweden, to see how the technology – powered by green hydrogen – performed on public roads in harsh winter conditions. It didn’t disappoint.

Batteries are great, but they have a few shorcommings, most of witch can be solved by Hydrogen. So please make this the future!

Since low temps are great for storing liquified gases, hydrogen has some benefits over BEVs in cold climates.

did you drive it from Hällered to Kiruna?

She's Beautifull.
But she's got to have a VERY high center of gravity.
Why not 2 Steering Axels (2 or 3 meters between them) with
the batteries laid down in-between them?
Lower center of gravity, greater traction, more regen breaking, no loss
of available cargo weights for the drive axles. Then just a small 2 cylinder
motor for heat and AC of the cab and batteries
Have you been following the men at Edison Motors in western Canada.
Simple Diesel/Electric Hybrids.(on YouTube)

Hydrogen is produced from methane... Why not use good old LPG instead of this hydrogen? Expensive hydrogen element (platinum!) is avoided and there is no need to waste energy on "evaporating" hydrogen from methane

Is there any trucking company running hydrogen trucks in the USA in 2023? I have seen zero news of any truck sales to a company that is actually using them in a profitable business. Demonstrations come and go since 2017 with Kenworth, Toyota and Shell Oil. It looks like hydrogen trucking is busted. No sales in six years. Hydrogen vehicles were touted as the solution in 1999 and twenty four years later, nothing but pretty pictures and video of demonstration trucks. Show me the truck gigafactory that is going to build these trucks. Zip, zero, nada. It's a scam. The oil company has won with the hydrogen con job.
