Some Gold Star families are defending former President Donald Trump amid the controversy over his visit to Arlington National Cemetery. Several of them are also criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris in an ad from the Trump campaign. CBS News Confirmed verification producer James LaPorta has details.

Gold star families invited Harris, but she didn't show up on the ceremony. That's the real problem behind this issue. Harris is the one who needs to be criticized for no show on the ceremony. No respect for veterans. Biden also used the video when those veterans were died for promoting his political image, too, so if Trump did something wrong, then so did Biden.

After hearing your colleague talk about the families being legitimately angry and feeling uncared for or unheard, instead of offering compassion, you immediately began asking questions about the rules for taking photographs for political reasons, which appeared to be the main reason and not any real concern for the families. As such, your line of questioning, focused on the wrong things, rather than offering compassion to families who have lost loved ones forever, and that in my opinion, is very shameful. It's also disheartening to see the loss of loved ones being reduced to a discussion about photographs, instead of receiving the compassion and support they deserve. It is truly disappointing that CBS missed the opportunity to show compassion and chose to focus on painting Trump in a negative light. It was also clear that genuine compassion was lacking in your coverage, that was terrible and shameful.
