Glad I found this video. I own a Roland VR-09 Keyboard for a number of years now. I also own a older Casio CT-670 Keyboard in great shape I purchased back in 1990 I believe. I purchased a MIDI Double Cable on Amazon a few years ago that has still been sitting in the clam shell package it came in. The double cable has 2 colors Red and Black on each end. There were no directions with it of course so I took it upon myself to stick one Red end into the (Out) of the Roland making it the Master Keyboard and the opposite Red end into the (In) of the Casio making it the Slave Keyboard. The Casio has a slide switch on it that shows MIDI. I slid that switch to it. Tried playing through the Roland and sound was coming out of my Amplifier the Roland is connected to as usual. The Casio has its own Speakers. When I tried the Casio it was playing as it usually does it’s own sound through its speakers. At this point it wasn’t doing what I hoped it to do. I then decided to try making the Casio the Master going from Out to In on my Roland. It made no difference at all. Them I looked in my manual and saw they have a way in Menu to put that Roland in MIDI mode. I put it in Bank 1 and made sure the Casio was set in Bank 1 also. Once again nothing changed. Now I am wondering if my MIDI cable although brand new is good. I even tried the black ends which essentially is another cable being the double cable is attached together although separate ends. Curious if you have any ideas for me to try. I thought about buying another MIDI Cable but a single cable this time. I find it hard to believe that the new double cable could be bad. I have yet to use a Multi-meter on it checking the pins on both red plugs or black plugs. I am still wondering what a double MIDI cable would be for since even you show a single cable is all that is needed. When I ordered it years back I just order a set of MIDI cables and was surprised at a double cable when I opened the package.

Question…the yamaha P-125 I have doesn’t have midi outlets. It only has USB. What do you do in this scenario?

I'm not a piano guy really, but I'm recording some Acoustic guitar originals and want to use a Yamaha PSR 175 (I found in the trash) just to add some drone notes and funky background stuff. I thought I need a midi cable but it looks like I don't. I'll just use the 1/4' outputs into my Interface....right? I'm using Reaper. Great explanation!

I'm not so let's say midi inclined so I would like to ask how do you connect two keyboards midi to each other so that on both keyboards you play the accompaniment with the left hand and the melody with the right hand, but on both keyboards.
in other words i have the ketron sd9 and the yamaha genos.
I would like to play with the accompaniment on the yamaha genos and with the sounds of the ketron, but also vice versa.
Do you then also need 1 midi cable, or two and how are the channels set on the keyboards. I would love it if you could make a video about that so I can use both keyboards to their fullest.

I have a Nord Electro 4D and am thinking about getting a MIDI keyboard controller. Is it possible to route a Samp Lib sounds (or piano) to the controller keyboard but still play; for instance, the organ sound on the 4D? What I'm looking for is having some brass sounds on one keyboard and B3 sounds on the other at the same time, yet utilize the samples and organ sounds from the 4D.

yeah, I get what you're saying. I want to go further. I have Kurzweil 2700 and a Roland b k-5. it's a backing keyboard.i want to Control all my backing functions from the K2700. So far it has eluded me. See the backing keyboard will cha get its backing n g as a function of how I play. but I want to play the K2799 and nor the plastic bk5 keys. Any suggestions?
