Is 4 Cores Enough for Gaming in 2020?

In this video I'll be putting the 4-core Ryzen 3 3300X up against the Ryzen 5 1600AF in 10 modern games to see if a 4-core CPU is enough for PC gaming in 2020 or if it is really time to step up to 6 or more cores.

Just a few days ago the Ryzen 5 1600AF was available directly from Amazon for $105 however today is only available from third party sellers for stupid prices. I wouldn't recommend paying more then $120 for this CPU. The Ryzen 3 3100 is available now for $99 so my guess is the 3300X will be soon at its MSRP.

generally i agree with your deep dive conclusions, but i think it's important to emphasize that 3300x is 4core *8thread*, quad cores nowadays are are still fine as long as they have hyper threading or SMT if its amd cpu. 4core4thread are going to struggle in many newer games. Also there are games that really pushes 4core8thread cpus like bf5 64 player multiplayer and even shadow of the tomb raider which you showed in your own video. So yeah 4 core 8 thread cpus are still enough but 6core 12thread are ideal for all current games.

Can you test i3-9350k or kf or i5-7600k on AC Odyssey? They are really 4 cores 4 threads, Ryzen 3 3300X have 8 theads :/

Hey CJ, as you know I am doing Medical Transcription, I am using a foot-pedal to play pause dictations, via virtual box, the issue is each time I connect the pedal, it gives me an exclamation mark in Human interface in device manager, after making it disable and enable 10/15 it connects, some time needs 2/3 restarts, its saying driver error, this problem started after using Windows 10. In windows 7 it is working very good since last 10 years. I tried each and every settings, updating and all but failed. I request do you have any solution of this, please help.

The 4 core will limit out the 6 won’t.

They are both not that far apart but I would say the 1600 af is better because it provides smoother frame rates and you can have multiple programs running in background. It's also better for content creators and streamers. Once games start utilizing 16 threads I have a good feeling the tables might turn for the 3300x but that's just my thoughts and speculations

My budget is really low so I wanna know if it will be ok for the next 3-4 years cuz I am ok with gaming at 1080p high now and can shift to 720p low in the upcoming years😂😂
