Good Morning!! What do you guys think about this?!

I bought the A7RV for the screen, EVF, and better stabilization. Having great AF is just an added benefit. For what it offers, it’s an incredible value. Zero regrets!! I will never buy another camera without a 4-way screen - it’s simply amazing to use and makes you want to go out and shoot.

I love sony and love using their cameras, but their lack of firmware updates to provide new features within their cameras is annoying. They literally could update most of their new cameras to have updated features but it feels like they simply choose to not do it... it's the Apple effect sadly 🙃

What we really need is a firmware update for the A1 to have the fully articulated screen from the RV. I’m sure it can be done! I love my RV 😄

I upgraded to an a7rv from an a7iii. Absolutely worth the upgrade. Feels better in the hand, love the flexibility of view from the screen, the EVF, the custom buttons and focus, the lot! I did worry files would be too big, but that 60mp sensor is my favourite feature of all. I use 20, 35, 55 and 85 primes (plus 70~200 f4) and the abilty to crop the sensor gives makes them all zooms. Fabulous camera. (I don’t do video)

Thanks for all the ideas your videos provide. Great work.

4:28 no I don't think they can do anything about it because they built in an extra chip into the A7RV for the improved AI autofocus. The A1 does not have that extra chip so it isn't possible with an update.

I have been using my A7r V with a 35mm f1.4 lens shooting video of fast moving kids at f1.4 over Christmas. I was absolutely blown away by how well the autofocus worked for video at this shallow depth of field. Young kids never keep still, and the A7r V had no problems nailing focus every time. I also own an A1, and now hardly shoot with it, as I miss the new autofocus and the new articulated screen, particularly for vertical video.

I have been using the A7R5 since day1 release to market. Its an awesome camera chosen for its Auto focus, sticking power, and image. It has not let me down and its FAR MORE than a landscape camera (PL's words), it has a quality enough for faster movement. I am counting on it.

As someone who has an A7S3, the only thing I'm kinda upset about is the Focus Breathing Compensation. I know a couple other YouTubers have also complained about it. I hope that + animal eye can come out this year in an update. Hard to be too upset about clean 12, 800 ISO though.

Nice combo of loving it and ranting, LOL! As a pro working for decades, I have one phrase for Sony to help them rule the world (beside "firmware updates"): voice-activated menus. Come on! Let's build some Alexa tech into our cameras so all we have to do is say "switch to spot focus" (as one example of dozens). The menus are so deep now and this would help so much with workflow!

4:34 Autofocus update for A1. This depends on the build in hardware of the A1. AFAIK A7R5 has a new AI chip dedicated for autofocus functionality. Eg. A7III never received the realtime tracking autofocus, simply because it doesn't have the hardware to handle it.

I thought you were going to rant on the A7RV, but as I watched the video I understood your frustration. If I had an A1 I would be upset there hasn't been a firmware update especially given the price. I picked up the A7rV and have been very pleased with it thus far. So far it feels like the first Sony camera that doesn't feel compromised (I'm not an avid video shooter) so that may be why for me. I also am pleased to have the lower resolutions as well. There are many times I don't need or want the large 61 meg files, and having 26 is plenty for less critical imaging but still plenty to make great prints.

I’m heading to Tokyo in a few weeks to take pictures. I’m thinking of getting a hotel in the Shinjuku district because of all the picturesque street scenes there.

I have A1 and A7RV and if I shoot people I pick my A7RV but my A1 is my workhorse because of the NO banding on silent mode

The hot shoe issue has been reported by many users. In truth, that's the potential weak area for even the best sealed body. My R5 did survive a dunking in sea water once, though. But one of the FStopper guys got his D850 rinsed by a rogue wave and it totally shorted out. So, be careful out there and get a hot shoe protector if you can find one that fits.

They are welcome to update my A9!
I love my A9 for the B&W jpegs, which are better than my other Sony's and my Nikon and its downloaded profiles!

With human or animal eye tracking and a large spot or zone af area on my front shutter button on my a7iv and my R7 my camera usually puts a white square on the head or often the eye of the subject before I even half press the shutter. I don't have to hit any extra tracking button or anything else almost all of the time. Once in awhile I need a single-point AF and I have it on a back button when needed. The front AF tracking almost always takes care of it.

I agree Pierre. I have the A1 I was not going to order the A7V until I played around with one and the autofocus blew me away. So I ordered the A7V and in a way kind of feel ripped off that the A1 doesn't have this technology. I think they should do everything they can in a firmware upgrade but with the extra processor for the AI on the A7V, I don't know if they can. One thing I do like about the A1 better is the stacked sensor which lets me shoot and silent mode without worrying about distortion. The other day I was doing some street photography with the A7V in electronic shutter for silence and I got a lot of distortion with fast-moving subjects. So I guess the A1-2 is going to be the perfect camera where they'll try to suck 8K out of us! 😁

I firkin LOVE my A7R5 ! I got the 24-70 GM and the 100-400 GM for it and I am having a blast. This thing is such a beast and well made. It's my first Sony and I'm in love!!

Sony cant add the ai auto focus into older cameras because it works with a dedicated ai processing chip but i agree you cause sony could add focus breathing comp to older camers but they refuse. Im not saying they have to update camers as far back to the original a7 but at least the current alpha camers. For example the a1 can stop getting updates when the a2 comes out.
