Here is a quick overview of the hormone cortisol. It is released from the adrenal glands and is involved in the HPA axis (hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenal).

Recent literature has show low cortisol levels to be a biomarker for Long Covid. Low cortisol levels are consistent with feelings of fatigue, weakness, and mood shifts. These are consistent symptoms with Long Covid.

Additional research is necessary in this field to see the full picture. The work we have now are just pieces, but allow us to begin to create stronger hypotheses and rigorous studies to help find relief in the patients suffering.

You did a really great job breaking this down to a non-clinical person. :)

My doctor is going to check my cortisol levels because I wake up extremely tired and everyday at 4PM I'm resting in bed because I cannot stand up.

I must be an idiot because even after watching this, I still don't know what cortisol actually does. Time to find a more idiot-friendly video. 😄

Growing up in America kids have to get up very early for school. Right at the time they need their deepest sleep and brain growth. Waking kids up early everyday, is not good for them, imo. I hated getting up early for school I was in deep sleep getting the best rest. Then I was hyperactive all day, , , 😳
