What NOT to say in the Czech Republic 🇨🇿👇

Saying these things to a Czech person is a fool proof way to make them angry

“Beer is better in my country”

Czech beer is amazing and the locals are very proud of it. They’re convinced that it’s the best in the world and will defend that forever! (I do love it 🍻)

Calling the country “Czechoslovakia”

Just using this name in a modern context is wrong and annoys a lot of people here. Czechoslovakia ended in the early 1990s.

Calling Czechs “Eastern European”

And the same goes for referring to the Czech Republic as Eastern Europe. You’ll learn quickly here that Czechs are proud to be a part of Central Europe and do not consider themselves Eastern European.

“Why don’t Czech people smile more?”

This one is controversial. But there is a stereotype that Czech people are always depressed or angry because they don’t smile often. But in reality I think they just reserve a smile for when they have a reason too. None of that fake niceness of other countries 🤷

“Trdelnik is a traditional Czech dessert”

These baked sugary chimney cakes are not originally Czech and people are very quick to point out how touristy they are

“Prague is the only place worth visiting”

Yes Prague is beautiful. But there is so much more to experience in this country. So don’t assume you’ve seen the whole country if you’ve only ever been to Prague!

What else do you think I should add to this list of things not to say in the Czech Republic? 🇨🇿

Co máš proti "tradičnímu českému" pečivu z Maďarska, na které má Slovensko ochrannou známku? (Zdravím do Skalice 🙃) 😁

There are so many places to explore in the Czech Republic. Winters are really cold and summers in Prague are crowded with tourists. Czech out the smaller cities. Even though people don’t smile much have a beer with the locals. They’re so welcoming once they get to know you.

As a Bulgarian (which is an eastern european slavic county) who lives in Czech Republic, I can say Czechs are a lot more advanced but also kinda with cold personalities? 😅

That is not to hate on anyone, I like the dark humor and I thing Czech Republic is a perfect place to live in. You have a lot of old buildings and history everywhere you look, it's not as modern as other counties, for example you're not gonna find any skyscrapers here, but the roads are nice and smooth, everything is easily accessible and clean. Not to mention that there are no dangerous animals living here, so you can go on a hike and not be scared about coming across snakes or a bear. Those are things I could not say about my country.

But Eastern Europe has it's own magic too, i think people here are maybe more authentic and even though they might seem tough and scary, they are very warm hearted. Whenever i travel to somewhere else that's not Sofia, i feel like I'm traveling back in time 😅 people in Czechia are always surprised about why I act so confused like a 40 year old when I'm in my 20s, but i guess that that's the reason 😂

Czech Republic seems like something that's right in the middle when it comes to modern and old things. So I'd say it's just right 🤍
