How the Victim vs. Victor Dynamic Shapes Our Financial Outcomes

There are two mindsets that greatly influence how we approach life and money: The victim mindset and the victor mindset.

The victim mindset tells you that you're not in control of your outcomes, while the victor's mindset acknowledges that—while life isn't fair—you have some control over your outcomes and are capable of overcoming the challenges you're presented with. At the crux of it all is: control.
Sometimes, we ascribe to a victim mindset and undermine our own capacity and control—and stand in our own way in the process. (And it's even more complicated when we think about how the playing field is uneven in the world, too.)

So my guest today, Dominick Quartuccio, gives us a three-step framework to rewire these negative thought patterns, design a future we can "live into," and regain control over our lives.

Excellent discussion- I was searching for the Bible and accountability (the Matthew effect) and came across this post.

Thank you for acknowledging the inequality that is greatly appreciated. I fell into this thinking recently. But did end up counting all of my blessings and had to tell myself that I have a lot and can successfully build on it.

Please continue these discussions— also motivated to post my own financial journey.

Take care and keep up the excellent work!

In another note : just ordered an indoor grill as I don’t cook anymore either! 😂

Love it! Empower yourself by claiming responsibility. Obviously, some circumstances must be accepted gracefully as out of our control.

This podcast was great! I needed to hear all these things. I wasn't sure how to start to see a change in my financial wealth. We must definitely change our mindset first and stop making excuses for ourselves. Thank you Katie!

I loooved this episode, I was raised thinking all you can do is keep fighting, never give up. But when you really feel the realities against you it becomes difficult to keep going, this was exactly what I needed to hear! I'm going to place posts it all over my place

Definitely the part about attention. Never thought about it that way.

Radical accountability has been so helpful for me, both in my personal life and in my work. I am working on being gentle and compassionate with it now so that it can remain helpful in the long term. I always fear discussions on victim vs victor, because it often slides into self-blame and self-hate, so I appreciate how intentional you were with this podcast/video in stating that this can be (and should be) done with empathy towards yourself, and that privilege must be discussed.

Thank you for acknowledging privilege in this discussion and sharing your conficts with it. "Lack of privilege" is one of those stories I tell myself that threatens to keep me in the victim "hood". Complicated!

Katie, you have touched an amazing subject. This is what I try to convey to myself and my 5 kids ( in between 25-30 years old)
It is a family subject too. Thank you once again.

I'm all for you have to get out the victim mindset in order to overcome. However the problem with the overall thinking is that it gives the individuals in our society who have the power to improve the systems we have off the hook from actually doing anything about it. It's a very libertarian view of the world. Imagine if that very thought was used against the Civil Rights movement, or women's suffrage movement. There wouldn't be progress just a few more individuals who were able to profit from capitalism while the system crushes everyone else. We're not going to "woo" ourselves from the problems of healthcare or unaffordable housing, or climate change.
