Port VLAN ID (PVID) and Untagged VLANs

Good video Willie !! ONce people wrap their heads around Vlans they get more comfy :) Also, new to me by accidentally playing around YOu can send untagged vlans over a port over a dumb switch and the vlan aware device will see that traffic.

Good start on PVID vs untagged vlans - I've always wondered about that. As you said, I've always set them the same, which seemed like a redundant waste of time, but I would be really interested in some specific use cases with diagrams of where the PVID and the Untag vlan are different values. Thanks for this!

I always thought the person or persons that came up with PVID was drinking when they came up with the concept. Such a waste of time IMO.

I will only set PVID and port to untagged same unless it only meant for single networks purposes.. if the port are not meant for single network purposes then my PVID will not be set as untagged (vlan number)

What i do is, connection between router to switch, setting will be naive vlan 1 on router, switch side PVID will be 1, and i will tagged the port too..

In the future do you think layer 3 will take over vlan's?

Noob question. So looking into a core switch i see vlans for specific locations.(ie: Core SW-Site "A" Vlan id :1000) but when i go to those switches at the site i see other vlan Id's. (site "A" switch (vlan 8 -Data Vlan 225 Voice- Vlan 10 for Security) Why no Vlan 1000 in the vlan list?

I've been trying to make a vlan for a ps5, firestick and pc.
But as soon as i go take the pvid out of vlan1 the vlan for the pc or firestick losses internet access.. I can't figure it out.. Or I'm i doing it wrong

would it be fair to say PVID (let say 10) on a port would make a device (Windows 10), where itself (in this case the OS) does not have an VLAN ID, to become set with VLAN10 once it is plugged into the switch port?
