He smiled, obviously seeing the poly instruction in the VAX instruction set. And the bcd instructions used only by the COBOL compiler.

It is a good memory that I translated and published "The MIPS-X RISC Microprocessor" by Paul Chow into Japanese. I found the book at Stanford book store and proposed to publish in Japanese to a publishing company. I was impressed by the idea of software re-ordering of instruction and increasing clock by smaller chip size.

This channel is definitely underrated. It's too bad it only just now popped up in my recommendations.

Thanks for the history lesson, it was fun :) I'm on the spectrum and even I was a little weirded out by the lack of eye contact though xD Rigging up and old Android phone as an autocue near the camera might help, as far away as your camera's optical zoom can compensate for.

@7:23 The R8000 was much faster only for floating point, i.e. what supercomputers needed. The integer performance at max 90 MHz was mediocre compared to the competition and made it difficult to optimize software. The R10000 is a much more balanced processor.

I am supporting GNU/linux on mips32 and mips4. From SGI ip30 (mips4 64bit) to Atheros SOCs (mips32r2 32bit).
