It would sure be nice if instant pot was able to replace my aging rice cooker. Side by side test to find out.

If u eat that much rice I would invest in a deluxe rice cooker that cooks all rice types to perfection.

Thank you for your video. I saw the final result and decided to take a little over 1/4C of water out (I was making 4C of rice) with high pressure and the rice turned out perfect. Thanks again!

Really enjoyed this video. Everything about it was perfect. I like the little added comedy about being too fast. You could you have some stake in your rice. Definitely did a great service by making this. Thanks!

If you are a rice lover instead of an instapot buy the Japanese/Korean rice cookers

My rice button works great. I found it depends greatly on two things (1) brand of rice and (2) how much you prerinse in cold water. Minor changes to 1:1 water ratio also helped. Btw I always manually blow down when it finishes.

You can change time on preset buttons. Just use the "adjust" button tho change the time. And the next time you use it, it will remember the time you selected.

Your IP rice is overcooked - just reduce your water/stock ratio and you'll be fine. I still prefer my rice cooker for most things as the rice always turns out perfectly! I haven't had the time till now to really work with it much! It's still my tool of choice for soups, beans, and cheesecake/flan. Fantastic machine!

With the instant pot, which is not an automatic process just experiment until you get it right.

I steam basmati rice in the IP and this gives excellent rice. Wash three times, add to a rice bowl with an equal weight of water and salt to taste. Cover the bowl with foil and put on trivet. Cook for 10 min on LP, NPR for 20 mins. This works for any volume of rice, even a 50g portion comes out perfect. This method is adopted from the method used by the channel "Alex" to make rice for fried rice. I will also reheat a curry in the IP at the same time to have both ready at the same time. That's also done with the pot-in-pot method.

It looked like the instant pot was mushy. Did you wash your rice until all the white starch was off before you cooked it?
You should rinse it until there is no more milky white and yes try cooking it for 3 or 3 1/2 minutes and see.

Yeah, pressure cooked rice simply isn't the same as steamed rice. Steamed rice is best. But you can make steamed rice using the steam mode of the instant pot. The disadvantage is it won't cook as fast and won't automatically adjust the cooking time based on weight and temperature, etcetera like it does with the rice mode if instead you use the steam mode to cook your rice.

Instant pot makes awful rice. I'll keep my rice cooker. Giving my ipot to my daughter.

Greetings. Was wondering if you washed the rice in a strainer before hand?
In another YT video they mentioned doing this to avoid having the extra starch
when cooking rice. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for a real trial and review by someone who actually eats rice. My mom taught me to measure how much water to use with the tip of my finger, does this work with the instant pot? I just can't justify buying one if it doesn't make good rice. Even we half Filipinos are picky, lol.

Cooking rice with instant pot requires skill and knowledgable experience. It doesn't cook automatically the way you want every time. You have to go go thru a lot of trial and error until you feel that you get it right! So play around with the timer and the level of pressure each time you're cooking with a different bag of rice. Once you have found the way, stick with that very same method, then you'll be ok!
