Crocheting a ribbed beanie #shorts #crochet #crochetbeanie

Here's a quick and simple crochet ribbed beanie tutorial suitable for all crochet levels! With the usual ribbed beanie patterns, I've always felt that it would turn out too thick and bumpy at the top. This one is slightly more advanced than other ribbed beanie tutorials to keep the top of the beanie from bunching when gathering and sewing up the top. However, this pattern is still easy because it's repetitive and uses basic stitches.

Project Level:
This is a great first project because it uses very basic stitches that all beginners would know! The only catch is that it is worked mainly in the back loops only (BLO) to give it that ribbed effect. The stitching method I used is the slip stitching method, but hand sewing is also a great alternative!

Stitches:
Slip Knot (sk)
Chain (ch)
Half Double Crochet (hdc) in the Back Loop Only (BLO)
Slip Stitch (sl st) in the Back Loop Only (BLO)

Materials:
Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in the color "Cafe Latte"
- Weight: Medium (4)
- Fiber: 100% Acrylic
- Approximate total length: 160 yd / 146 m
- Approximate total weight: 3.07 oz / 87 g

Yarn Needle
Scissors

Gauge:
18 hdc - 11 rows = 4 in / 10 cm

Dimensions:
Front Panels - 38 cm/15" long x 19 cm/7.5" wide

Tips:
- Measure your head and decide the size of your hat before starting
- Account for the stretchiness of the ribbing (make it slightly smaller than your actual head size)
- The chain 1 at the beginning of each row does NOT count as a stitch
- Pull your loose ends to the inside of the hat and weave them in (or leave them hanging!)

Thanks for watching!

So far the best method! I've made 5 hats this way-1 year old, 10yo, 11yo and 2 adult sized. Soft and stretchy so no need to worry if it will fit. Love it!!!

You should add a fluffy pompom on top! That would really finish the look!

I started making crochet beanies recently and do the same thing! At least I think so, because it looks the same. BLO half double crochet for almost the whole thing, except denpending on the size, 3-6 slip stitches at the end so it doesn't bunch. Thats what makes the little circle.
