Will there be WAR between Israel and Syria?

The Middle East is once again at a breaking point. In late 2024, Syria’s long-time ruler, Bashar al-Assad, was overthrown in a sudden rebel offensive. As chaos unfolded, Israel launched a large-scale airstrike campaign in Syria, destroying over 80% of the former government's military assets. But that was just the beginning.

Israel also moved into strategic areas of Southern Syria, capturing land along the Yarmouk River and Mount Hermon - placing its forces just 20 km from Damascus. Meanwhile, tensions escalated as Israel demanded a demilitarized buffer zone across Syria’s southern provinces, aiming to counter the rise of islamist militias and to protect the local Druze community.

After incidents were reported in the Druze neighbourhood of Damascus, Israel's defence ministry said that the Israeli military had been instructed to prepare for an operation - all the while a new Druze military faction, the “Suweyda Military Council" formed.

Could this spark a new Israel-Syria war over the Golan Heights? Will Israel invade and attempt to create a Druze buffer state? In this video, we break down the history of the Golan Heights dispute, from the Six-Day War to the Yom Kippur War, and explore what might happen next in this high-stakes geopolitical struggle.

Why is Israel a cube? Since I know this question will come up a lot: In the countryball/polandball community, there are special rules for a few countries. Kazakhstan is a brick and Nepal has to retain the shape of its flag with teeth showing. These are supposed to reflect the special properties of a flag, cultural aspects or jokes that are well-known within that country. Israel is one of the countries with a special shape. While I’m not an active part of the countryball community, I still respect the rules of this art style since they are worthwhile for keeping the genre coherent - that’s it.

When ISIS attacked the Druze in Suwaida Israel didn’t carry a tune to help them, not even by giving them the location of ISIS terrorists despite being asked to, but when Syria got free and the Druze are celebrating the new government, Israel says it wants to impose “protection” on them, despite them protesting against the Israeli statements.

Step 1: Invade territory in times of high regional tension, claim to be “establishing a buffer zone”
Step 2: Colonize “Buffer Zone”
Step 3: Invade territory in times of high regional tension, establish new buffer zone for colony

This is a really good video but I will add that it is extremely unlikely Israel would resettle the Golan Druze, since it would anger the Israeli Druze population. Israel and Israelis see the Druze as their biggest allies in the region and that is not too far from the truth, that is in fact why Israel didn't remove any Druze from the Golan in the 67 war and it's very unlikely they are considering it this time.

Israel with Syria is behaving like Russia behaved with Ukraine. Literally using the same arguments.
